How does one define an ideal job? By salary? By benefits? By one's level of happiness at a particular position? My first month into a new job got me thinking, especially on the long bus rides to and fro the office.

I disagree. An ideal job would be one that you enjoy going to, every fucking day. It would also be one that allows you to live comfortably. With enough cash, benefits and time off as you need/want.
Good work atmosphere with a good sense of camaraderie amongst your coworkers and boss. You listen to your boss because you respect him- not because you're afraid to get fired.
Pays enough to take care of bare necessities with a little extra for saving.
Long hours, long commutes, and dangerous conditions I'm used to, so I don't really give a crap.
the ideal job would be if you know something is wrong you do not need to go to your supervisor who goes to his supervisor to get something fixed. too much red tape
