Hey TLLP team, hang on a sec...
You'll have to forgive me if I am overly cynical and skeptical about this shutdown order, since I can't scrutinize the legal documents in your possess myself. As far as I know, you are a North American based group that has no commercial ties or any form of advertising. How would Japanese circle detect you so easily when other bigger and older groups that are far more visible than you don't get the same attention? Furthermore, I don't really understand how a Japanese group can sue across the border like this. I mean, I would understand it if the work is already release in English with copyright and IP protections, but if it has never been translated before, how can they have legal power here?
Also, it seems interesting to me that just as you are on the upswing in popularity, all of the sudden a potential lawsuit comes flying out of nowhere? Don't get me wrong, I know certain groups in Japan do take legal action to protect their work, but they're a clear minority. It just doesn't seem like something Japanese folks usually do. This seems more... American? I donno, it just seems weird how the big guys with commercial interests in scanlation don't get their ass put to the fire, but a smaller, growing group that does the majority of their work for free and some for commission/donation all of sudden gets a shutdown order from overseas?
Again, I don't have access to the documents, and until I somehow do, all I can give are conjectures, but I urge you, TLLP team, to please examine this legal notice closer, if you feel that there's still room for any doubt. For a team that has given us so much of themselves, and have invested so much into the success of this team, it would be a travesty if pay-to-view sites of questionable legality can survive while a free translation team gets the axe.
According to the millenium international copyright act, they can come after us as if we were committing the crime in japan, plus their US license holders can sue us as well, trust me i examined everything, they can prosecute us as if we were in japan according to international copy right laws that were amended. Its either comply or fight it in court and face penalties which amount to fines, court law suits and a host of other shit according to my lawyer, we complied and as well wrote a letter of apology for our alleged actions, we respected their wishes we cant fight something this big
