Thinking about starting a new type of roleplaying game.

On the forums.

You would take on the role of a leader of a waring state during the Sengoku Era of Japan, It will involved military, diplomatic and even perhaps trade aspects of the game. Every week the users involved would send me pm's with the choices they wanted to make during each round and I would write appropriate events to affect history. It would be fairly random favoring no one in particular. There would be room for close to 20 states (not sure if i would play as well) and a host of non-playable nations as well. Some of the things you could do are to start wars, create alliances, commence trade with other nations (or even europe). There will be 4 rounds in a year to represent the 4 seasons; during winter it will be harder to travel. Travel time will be considered, there will be specific rules such as you wont be able to invade a country that is not directly next to yours unless you arrange some sort of treaty to pass through the nations between you. Each nation is quite different as well, nations in the south will have a larger population while nations in the north will be easier to defend and have more resources (and therefore a better chance to trade) while nations in the center will have a mix of both population and resources but will also be surrounded on all sides. There will be limited ports to trade from and if your nation is landlocked you wont be able to trade overseas. Each country will have leaders, and those leaders will have sons and daughters. and they will be used as general, and used to strengthen alliances.

These are simply examples of some of the things i'm going to include of the game. I'd like to know how popular the game will be so I can start planning now. People will have to be on time and message me at some point during the week otherwise they will make no move during the turn and might miss out on valuable opportunities to grow their empire. This will be a game but also a work of fiction, there will be plots and sub-plots using the heroes of the Sengoku Era, some real and some fictional. I will avoid doing anything impossible as seen in Sengoku Rance or Basara but there will be feats of heroism. Most likely no player will be killed out of the game at first so don't worry about something like that.

Here is the current list of some of the States, please choose wisely. I reserve the right to not allow someone to play or to not allow them to play a certain nation. I need active people who visit the forums quite often and wont duck out in the middle of the game.

If I decide to play I will most likely play as either Date or Uesugi

Oda, Oura or Kitabatake are my choices.

Fairly certain what kind of gameplan I want to roll out from there. Particularly I'm not looking for a huge country but I would say Oda is my first pick.
Its right in the middle of everything and that's a very dangerous but good position.

This actually sounds not bad. I would like to play if you get it up and running. Would like to have either Otomo, Kono, or Mori.

It's the name of your Clan, your leader will probably have a related name. If this game is successful for the next game we will pick where we start, and the names of our faction.

This sounds really cool. I'd like to be a daughter of a nation. Do they choose me or do I choose them?

I'm trying to think of a way but I cant really come up with a good spot for those who dont want to play as Daimyo.

I will be adding the ability to make secret alliances and what not. I will also be making a intelligence and counter intelligence portion of the game. Before you go to war be sure to research about the country you're attacking, they may have an ally you didnt expect making the fight harder. If you use too many of your ninjas in the action it may hurt you as well as your country will be unprotected from the enemy intel.

Another thing to remember when picking nations is some leaders and generals are more prone to lead men into battle themselves, rushing in and placing themselves under great danger. Those nations need to remember that and consider taking time off between attacks, a sustained attack over many turns will place your general or leader at great risk. I'm looking at your date and takeda clans.

Will there be any more difference between clans, or will they differ based on choices made by player?

And while being on it, are there any good sites to brush upon Sengoku period history, aside from usual Wikipedia stuff?

Hope you go along with this game, seems very interesting. There will probably be some complications here and there but other than that looks good. My three preferred nations to play as would have to be:

1.Ashina

2.Amako

3.Suzuki

if you're looking for content on the sengoku era your best best is wikipedia. The rest of the info is out there, I even found a site with more detailed information about specific people during the era but I can't seem to find it again.

the differences between clans will be there, though it will be differences like geography, and who leads a country. When two nations clash I will take into account what each nation's strengths are and (for example Takeda and its cavalry or Iga and its ninjas) who their leader is(depending on who is available to lead).
