Yes I'll call you that now. My first experience was Immaterial and Missing Power and it took me nearly two damn years to figure out that Touhou was actually a series (of games).

A friend gave me the game (without the BGM data, i basically ranked my games after the music) but i couldnt get anything done right (but i managed to get into stage 4 or 5 somehow...)
Later i was introduced to "Imperibishle night" and thats where the real story began... (Spreading the games included, People with a good sense for Honor were quickly infected too)
"no way... this... just no... no... this cant... I have an USB drive with me, give me that! I'll manage!"
we took 4 months to beat easy mode and 3 more to beat easy mode w/o continues. Also inventors of 2Player versus ImpNight

Well I loved vertical shooters since I can remember so it was pretty easy to finish Lunatic after... 6 months of practice. I had to buy a gaming keyboard though.

@Jennyan: Now that I think about it, even if I WAS able to finish the drawing in time, MY SCANNER STILL IS BROKEN

My first Touhou game was EoSD, and I managed to beat the Easy mode w/o continues about 2 months later. I'm pretty new to this game, just playing it from the end of January.

I'm currently heading to beat the normal mode. Imperishable Night is way harder, so it's not a surprise that I'll take longer to master it. I'm also been playing IN right now to provide some more varieties.

random fun fact: Imperibishle Night was partly designed while ZUN was drunk.

something reaaaaaly good. I mean, imagine all Spellcards are like Marisas in IN lv 4. most of them had huge random components...

Every time Marisa unleashes her Master Spark, it's guaranteed that I'm losing either one life or one bomb.

Still Noobish atm, but I'm catching up a bit on it~

I'm mostly referring to the projectile star based Spellcards and fillers. and since they were turning too you could easily maneuvre yourself into a dead end.
But yeah, Master Wpark was the Hell... basic strategy was stand in one corner, wait for the targeting laser, MOVE IT!
Also: it wasnt possible in any way but me and a friend wondered if you could cancel Marisas master Spark Spellcard with a master Spark bomb

Well, head my advice..

UFO's difficulty is pure BS, especially in Normal. Don't play it yet...

... I still have yet to beat it... .-.

Mostly I play just to kill time, too lazy to even figure out how maneuver through these narrow spaces. It's usually end up with me spamming bombs until it's left and losing one life after tried dodging for a short while.

Each time I managed to dodge a complex danmaku pattern, it's either from pure lock or a mere instinct.

you musnt see the bullets, but the gaps they make.
Once you truly understand this something will do "click" in your head and you'll graze better (I had this experience against Keine. her first filler attack)

Yup, I'm beginning to think like that after playing quite a bit, that you doesn't have to move that much to ensure your safety. It still need some training though, maybe watching my own replays along with some blowing-off-steam gaming would work it out?

Here's a hint, just in case. Some bullets are stream-able, which means that they're aimed right at you (example is the midboss fight's 3rd attack before Cirno in EoSD). The best thing to do is move to the side slowly so the bullets could fly past by you. This is also a good way to get graze points....

This is also a good way for evading spellcards, that will barrage you with a s**tload of bullets aimed at you (as konachan said).
another good example is Mizuhashi Parsees 2nd or 3rd Spellcard (She shoots a large ball at you, which leaves a trail of stationary 5-point stars)

Just be careful with bullets that require dodging skill. Example is the Sakuya main boss fight...

also heat seeking bullets and bullets with different speed.
try to think a step ahead

Just one more piece of advice, learn the hitbox size of the different danmaku, although it's more trial and error...
