They don't even issue bayonets for long rifles anymore. They fuck your accuracy and you better off with your blade in a hand to hand. Or two 9mm/.40

You're better off with a straight stick with a point then a plastic clumsy pike with a extra 3ft of poking range. 1865 is awhile ago. Train soldiers won't get stuck with a bayonet in a straight line and file anymore. Specially with the advantage free weapon like a blade or small arms. Hell the damn unattached bayonet is 100x better then it on a rifle. If the rifle was like a m1 then that tactic is more viable. Those types of rifles are more streamlined and made for the bayonet.
I know it's not a viable option anymore, but there is something romantic about fixing bayonets and charging trenches, No longer in this day and age though.
Romantic and utterly stupid imo, especially in 1916.
