But for further games - how far does a work have to be published for its characters to count?
example: the game "Velsabor" was scrapped after 5 years, but there exists an extensive demo with 5 to 8 hours of story game time. What about Early Access titles/alphas?

I thought the ruling was "purchasable material,"? Early Access games are ones that you have to pay for to own them as they update.
As media keeps changing, so too will what qualifies as claimable in the Waifu Game.
Crowdfunding didn't exist when the game started. Pretty sure digital copies of stuff didn't either.
