Nope, Opium cause a war between the British and the Chinese. Over 1 million deaths because the British forced Opium and the Chinese didn't want any more.
Did heroin start a war I don't think so because heroins pussy shit.
If you count gang wars then yeah, it caused several. And the Opium War was kind of ridiculous. Why exactly did the British take Hong Kong from China? I don't think it was anything more than a port at that point.
I was pretty sure opium came from poppies. Just couldn't be arsed to wiki it.
I forget why but the British
"were" a bunch of greedy Imperialistic warmongers back then.
Basically, the British were smuggling opium into China from British controlled India. China was trying to enforce its drug laws, but as you said, the British were warmongers and it erupted into armed conflict.
If you're interested in details you can read about it
here.
Meh, China got mad because the Brits were reducing their trade deficit through drugs. They had a legitimate reason to be mad about it but China has basically sucked dick as an economic power until pretty recently so they had no real right to complain.
The Brits were greedy. They wanted Chinese goods, but because China made it clear that Great Britain didn't have anything they wanted except for silver, Britain turned to underhanded tactics. As a way to gain leverage in trade agreements they started smuggling opium in through India to get the Chinese people addicted. So yeah, they were trying to reduce their trade deficit, but the way they went about it had no regard for the policies or health of the Chinese people.
