I'm not sure. I've been trying to find out whether it's inofficial or unofficial, they do seem to be synonyms. But some sources suggests the correct word is actually "informal", but that doesn't sound quite right.

Well, old thesaurus next to my computer says unofficial. I believe the prefix "in-" is used more used as a positive prefix; "invaluable", "invincible", "indestructible", "incredible", etc, while "un-" is clearly negative; "unlikely", "untimely", "unwanted", "uninteresting".
