Hey everyone. I don't interact with people on the internet very much, and when I do it is usually as an anon on 4chan, primarily /a/. Needless to say, /a/ is not a good place to meet people or to be remembered for anything in particular. I have decided to meander over onto the forums here on a quest for internet homies since I was granted forum access earlier this year.
Anyhow, I'm a 23 year old Texan (a type of United Statesian for you foreign folk) and have been an anime fan ever since I bought some gaudy anime themed button-up shirts on clearance at Hot Topic in middle school and figured I should watch the shows from which the characters hailed. For as long as I have been a fan of Chinese cartoons and comics, I have actually not seen all that many shows (probably like, 125, but 143 according to my anime planet profile).
My other interests include tabletop gaming, music and video games. To elaborate upon those rather broad categories my tabletop gaming interests are generally of the armchair variety since my post-college graduation social life has not been particularly thrilling. I started out with D&D 3.0 around the time I was ten and never really left, switching over to Pathfinder when WoTC failed me with 4e. I also like GURPS for pretty much anything that isn't generic fantasy and would not be against playing D&D 5e as it seems the tone that had been lost in 4e has returned. I also have a partially painted little collection of Hordes figures since I took a stab at miniature gaming a couple years ago, however people to play with have since dried up.
I get called a hipster a lot due to my taste in music, but I've come to accept the label. The first stuff I listened to was nu-metal back when I was a Hot Topic shopping youth, but I quickly discovered the Japanese new-wave revival band Polysics and transitioned to listening to exclusively Japanese music through most of high school since I was a total weeb. I wasn't a huge fan of popular J-Rock or J-Pop though and listening to Polysics soon led me towards Melt-Banana and then the Boredoms and finally to the wonderful Japanese noise scene. Eventually, I became aware of some fringe non-Japanese bands that had their names tossed around as reference points. Around the time I was 17 I realized that the Japanese were not the Master Race when it came to music and the kind of stuff I liked existed outside of the vacuum of the Japanese music blogs that I lurked.
So nowadays I dabble in weird music from wherever, but I must admit I have a particular fondness for the synthesizer in almost any context. I have also returned from the pits of noise to listen to some genres of real music such as progressive rock, 90s alternative rock, post-punk and more recently subgenres of metal that are not nu-metal!
As far as video games are concerned, I have a 3DS and a Mac laptop. I gave up consoles with the PS3 and never really played much online, so the point is moot. I tend to like old western cRPGs and survival games and to think that I like JRPGs though the plots usually turn me off remarkably quickly. Dragon Quest games are an exception because they are so freakin' stupid you can't not have fun with them. I recently got a somewhat more modern computer, so I can play some things on Steam in addition to my GOG games. In the realm of online games I have begun toying with the SMITE Mac beta witch is fun when it doesn't bug out on matches as well as a Swedish MMO called Wurm Online that nobody plays. I have a handful of other online games on Steam, though they are mostly indie titles. The 3DS, as everyone knows, is not a beast as far as online games go, but I do love me dat Monster Hunter!
Well, there is my long ramble. I forgot to mention that I was male, but I imagine that was the default assumption. Maybe I shall post somewhere else from time to time. Hope to see you folks around, whoever the hell all of you are.
I found it kind of odd that you rambled on quite a while on your tastes in music, games, and other things, but didn't mention anything about hentai.
Anyways, you seemed to really be into music. I'm not really familiar with the noise genre, could you describe it for me. I personally got into a few visual-kei bands and some Japanese pop groups and am interested in how different the noise genre is.

Ah yes, I suppose sharing my tastes in hentai would make sense here.
I'm actually not that huge of a hentai connoisseur, but the publication of NaPaTa books here on Fakku got me interested in throwing money at a physical version of something that I usually just download from the internet. I fondly remembered his one-shot House Sitting for some reason or another and appreciate his art style in general. I also picked up both of the Kisaragi Gunma books because I enjoy porn with a plot and reoccurring characters.
I prefer my artwork to be anatomically correct and especially hate it when gigantic breasts and penises come into play. Artists who can draw feet well are always appreciated, but I find most foot worship and smell related stuff to be really cringey and bad. I also like how hentai can be used to play with generally taboo topics and enjoy lolicon manga, stories involving incest and exhibitionism and creative ero-guro by folks like Shintaro Kago and Horihone Saizou.
I am not familiar with a ton of artists really, but tend to just read whatever I stumble across that seems relevant to my interests. Getting too involved in any artist ends up being frustrating for me because I find myself wishing that their entire body of work would be readily available, preferably translated into somewhat decent English. A trip to doujinshi.org always leaves me feeling depressed after an hour of two of fruitless google-fu.
So far as Japanese noise music is concerned it is essentially what it sounds like it would be; guys (and gals) making a bunch of racket that is not very musical at all really. The most common instruments are analog synths, effect pedals and microphones. Many artists just kind of get some feedback going, find someway to control the noises and may or may not incorporate distorted screaming. Of course, tape manipulation and sampling is pretty popular as well and sometimes warped versions of regular songs spindle through the background while weird electronic and mouth noises are overdubbed.
Here's a nice and short compilation videotape from the early 90s if you want an audio-visual experience of some of the more recognizable figures from the time plus Dislocation, whoever the hell they(?) were.
What vis kei did you like? Dir en Grey and MUCC were kinda cool, but I never really got into the metal inspired vis kei. Some of the electronic stuff was fun though. I liked Urbangarde and Aural Vampire. Also cali≠gari, since they rocked that ero-guro theme and imagery quite nicely. Anti Feminism also deserves a mention since they did hardcore punk.
Yeah, most of the anons on 4chan are pretty hostile towards everything that isn't free and easy. They have somehow convinced themselves that sites like Fakku and Crunchyroll are the devil for wanting them to pay and that the companies do not support the industry despite the fact that they clearly do. Fakku used to be looked down on as a "casual" hentai site, but ever since they went legit they have gotten a ton of hate, presumably by those who want free fap material but are too lazy to find a way past sad panda on ehentai (like making an account). Despite there being several designated hentai related boards on 4chan, /a/ (a "safe" board) still has it's sad panda threads. People also seem to focus very intently on distribution sites rather than the folks that produce the material found therein and get all pissy when the original creators, scanners and translators become upset with the state of affairs.
4chan politics are really awful, but once you get past the hostility and elitism and learn to take nobody seriously it is a nice platform for scratching an itch for info in whatever nerd hobby interests you all from the same central location. I've become used to it after years of being there, but it does get lonely after a while swimming in a pool of sharks who want to make snide comments or argue with every anonymous post you make.
This forum has the same unwritten rules as /a/ and the culture around it is very similar. So you should feel familiar here. Like for example people will call you out if you love SAO or if you write like a retard i.e XD.
People used to be more hostile on Incoherent Babbling but it has been toned down since it's been the same circlejerk for years now.
In addition to /a/ I also actually post in /tg/,/vg/ and /mu/. Also sometimes /d/ and denpa threads on /jp/. When the new pokemon games come out I shall return to /vp/ until I get tired of pokemoning again. Aside from that, I wish /u/ wasn't garbage because I can't stand those "purest love" people but I like yuri if it's handled alright.

Cool, I used to go on /mu/ a lot but stopped. Now I look up /mu/ essential charts and follow needledrop and listen to what he reviews. Oh and I also follow comiket. And I go on /vg/ for anything fighting game related.
I like Fantano as well. He's an interesting fellow that manages to pull off Youtube comedy without being too annoying. I got dat boy on my Twitter feed! Which ain't saying a ton because I barely know how to use Twitter.
And what Comiket related stuff are you in to? 2hu arrange albums or some of the original music? Doujin ero-manga? I just get pumped for my denpa song releases, but I mostly let other folks keep up with what's coming out and such since I am illiterate in Japanese.
I never look for any specific doujins at comiket, I just take whatever is posted on ex. Same with music really, I listen to the small samples and judge if I should download it or not.

I also like Kisaragi Gunma. Great artist and author. If you like hentai with plot then a couple more artists to check out would be Cuvie (Fakku published one of her books) and Karma Tatsurou (several works available via Fakku subscription service).
In regards to visual kei, I really got into Kagrra. They became my favorite band for a long time and I still really enjoy their blend of rock music and traditional Japanese instruments. Another artist I liked was Ayabie/Ayabieru, which is hard to define their style because it changes so much from one song to the next.
