PONY’S POINTERS FOR NEWBIES
New to Fakku? Welcome and here are a few pointers to help you out
NOTE Most of what I have outlined here has already been addressed by the moderators in their stickys. but I though I would consolidate a few of the more important one
Stickys. These are at the top of each forum page They are Rules Hints and Commentary by the moderators and administrators to help keep you out of trouble. READ THEM.
Private messages. The message icon will light up when you have a private message
Forums. Fakku has set up specific forums to deal with or address problems or questions or comments or just plain rambling. If you are going to post. The best suggestion I can give is to first click on the “forums” icon. Scroll down and check out what each forum does and what it is for. If you need a better understand of what and what you can or cannot do
There is usually a “sticky’ by either the moderator or Jacob outlining the purpose and constraints.
Posting. Once you have found the forum most appropriate to your topic. Do a search to see if someone else has already made such a topic. Your Question Poll or Topic may already have been addressed.
Searching. The search function as near as I can determine only searches the page you are on. While it is rather tedious, please search the entire forum for any duplication.
Posting in general. Again this has been addressed many times but bears repeating
Do not ask someone to do something illegal (copy of a program. ie XP “ Cause I lost mine” Product Keys “My dog ate mine” “ Anyone know where I can get a bootlegged copy of XOXXOX?”
Do not post anything that even remotely tries to sell something. Unless it is in context with the topic. ie. “I need a new sound card for less than $50. any hints?” or “ I want to build a custom computer What should I get and how much will it cost” In those cases a poster might list components the sources and pricing
Replying to posts. Use common sense here. If you have something to contribute then do so. Repeating exactly what someone else has said without any commentary is
discouraged..
One last thing SPELL CHECK. Its free. Its easy. It will make what you are trying to say clearer to the reader. USE IT
At the end of your rope? When all else fails Ask a Moderator in a PM. Remember however the Moderators are volunteers. They do this for free. Out of the goodness of their hearts. For the betterment of Fakku and the world as we know it. Respect that and try your best before asking them. Rumor has it they have real lives too
