Hey guys/girls! Well, guess there really isn't a way to introduce myself without sounding awkward, so here we go. Sadly I'm the talkative type, so this will likely be longer than most of you would like to read.
Name's Aleksandr. I'm currently living in my apartment in Portland and am attending an Art School (Art Institute of Portland). Honestly, it gets rather lonely living alone in a state which has maybe 3 months of sunshine a year, but I think that's where my otaku lifestyle saved me.
One of my biggest hobbies right now is collecting figures, of which I have six so far (not many for some, but it's a start right?). Sure it's money draining, but hey, it's fun. Frankly it's annoying when a friend visits and chastises me for spending money on them, but for me it was worth every penny. I also have a few pre-ordered that I'm really looking forward to, and the recent Winter Wonder Festival 2012 was really exciting.
Another hobby is (duh) watching anime. Some of my favorite shows/films are NGE, Ghost in the Shell (show and movies), P&S w/ G, Oreimo, Nichijou, Azumanga Daioh, Duarara!!, Gurren Lagann, Spice and Wolf, Paprika, Interstella 5555, Steins;Gate, and many others. Honestly I'm looking to branch out into other shows, so any suggestions are welcome indeed.
It's not just about anime for me though; I have other interests too. Like most, I'm into music. I associate myself more with the House/Electronic/Synthpop movement, although I believe the largest peak was at the turn of the century. I mainly admire Daft Punk, Kaskade, Justice, TeddyLoid, Nobuo Uematsu, Akira Yamaoka, and SebastiAn. I'm not unwilling to experiment though, and a few close friends have successfully gotten me into other genres (rock, metal, etc.).
I'm also an avid gamer, which I thoroughly enjoy and tends to be a main connection with my friends. I've got a PS2, PS3, GameCube, and my PC. I tend to lean more toward PC gaming ever since I overhauled my system, but my favorite game still has to be the original Resident Evil 4 for the GameCube. Overall though, I feel my favorite genre has to be survival horror (thank Penumbra, Amnesia, Fatal Frame II, and Silent Hill 2 for that). I don't shy away from other games though. I really enjoy Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, and have recently gotten into some JRPGs (speaking of which, really looking forward to how Tokitowa turns out!).
I think out of all my goals (not work related) is to learn Japanese. I've actually heard it's not as difficult as it may first seem, and it would open up so many new opportunities for me (I'd really like to start visiting Japan regularly).
Sheesh, that was a load off my chest. Well, if you stuck it out this long, I'm grateful. Anybody want to talk about themselves? Comments? Suggestions? Questions? I'm all ears!
