Its not really a curse so to say. I mean for me to day I just handed in a damn fine essay and received one back with a mark of 87%.

It comes from something numerical in the bible i think, personally i think its all just superstition and coincidence. Bad things happen every day and today shouldn't be an exception for when its overly shitty.

I realised it was Friday 13th when I was on the roof trying to see if the dish had been moved out of alignment. I took extra special care on the way down.

I am not sure how the superstition came about, but when someone believes that a particular day is unlucky for him/her, going all out to do things differently may result in negative results. Furthermore, for a person who believes that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day, the misfortunes encountered on this particular day may be deeply embedded in one's memory, even though the event may be an everyday occurrence.

I think superstitions are just psychological. As in "If you keep telling yourself you'll make a mistake then you'll make a mistake." Its like you intentionally throw yourself off.

Although its doesn't have anything to do with the origin of the superstition, on Friday, October 13th in 1307, King Philip IV of France gave the order to simultaneously arrest the Grand Master of the Knights Templar as well as tons of other French Templars. Once arrested, they were charged with all kinds of heresies, a lot of them being bullshit, and tortured until they finally gave in and falsely confessed. A good number of them were burned at the stake for their supposed crimes.
As for its true origins, they're unknown. The numerological and Biblical concepts are viable, but the first known reference of Friday the 13th didn't come until around 1869 in a biography of Gioachino Rossini. The only actual evidence that the superstition could date back to anytime before then is that in the biography, it was stated that people had already considered it an unlucky day, but it didn't gain widespread recognition until somewhere toward the end of the 19th century.
