a question about this vidand how to CG

ok i saw this vids like a year and a half ago i had no idea on stuff like photoshop sai paint tool or any other stuff and now i still dont there are a lot i dnt understand on how she did it? like when the back ground was green then she colored it can anyone give me the "basics" the lowdown on how to do line art and color or mid tutorials i think my brain can handle it ( i think O.o) soo if anyone would be soo kind please
ps. i already have Photoshop 6.0 & 7.0 and i have gimp the only thing i know is how to cut out a some pic's that all XD if it's alot ill be erasing some of my memory soo itll fit (<-- i mean mem in my brain )

There are actually two ways to everything when you digitally do lineart and color.
You can either draw a "skeleton" and make up a sketchy base of the character, etc. or draw it traditionally and scan it in.
Usually you start with the background, and the skeleton base. At the start of the video, she starts lining out the base with black. You do this on a seperate layer. You can either use a brush or a vector tool for this.
After that, you can either paintbucket the line art for color or color in the parts of the lineart within each seperate layer.

Please get rid of gimp and try to get more used to photoshop. It pays off, it really does. You'll be able to do much more and way better/faster with photoshop.
Now concerning the lineart, I know nothing about it. Hopefully I'll be getting a tablet this christmas. So yeah, I could use some tutorials too (but since I don't have the tablet yet, I didn't bother looking for them).
But the colouring seems easy enough.

3) for coloring, she made a raster layer (not sure how many layers in total for coloring)
- floodfill in certain areas (hair)
- brush on certain parts, such as skin
- after the base colors were added, she took the brush tool and started adding on shadows and highlights
- for some shadows (like the skirt), she used a lasso, then color replacer
4) various small corrections on lines and coloring
5) background was a floodfill, then she fooled around with patterns

Ill just share my own style then ^^
this are my most used steps in all my CG stuffs.
1. Make a draft using traditional [paper and pencil]
2. then by using the VECTOR / tablet, make the line-art
of the whole outline. Then remember to make layers for
each part. Example :
Body [layer 1]
Face [layer 2]
Shirt [layer 3]
details [layer 4]
and so on.. the thing here is, by seperating all the layers,
you can easily erase some parts without touching the other
lines.
then for the colors, I usually folder them all so that it will
be organize :
Skin Colors [Folder 1]
> Highlights
> Tertiary
> Shadow effect
> Secondary
> Primary
just like that. Thats why most of my CG takes along time since
im organizing each work.
Then about the green thing, there are certain times that youll
be needing that thing especially for bright colors where you
can see the FLESH. Green, Dark colors are good for you to see
the light colors and vice versa.
Vectoring :
> by using this step, you can easily color each part. You can use
the color overlay for the base part then for secondary, take parts
that you think will shadows fall. I would suggest vectoring if you
dont have graphic tablet ^^

The way he uses the pen tool is different from the way I use it. I make the curves as I go. He puts the crucial points and THEN he adds more points to make the curves. But yeah, vectoring something like an anime picture is a ton of work and a crapload of time.

Tho you get a pretty good result in Sai as well...
And I am Also hoping to get a tablet of my own one of these days... T__T

Y'know, tablets for begginers aren't all that expensive. Google WACOM Bamboo One. Pretty cheap and suposedly good.
edit: Oh it's A6. I think that's enough for me. But I dunno, i've never used one. >.>

But not every online shop has this, and the shipping is a bit more expensive. Also, try searching for online shops in your country (cheapper shipping).
But it's way easier to buy on a shop right then and there. But guess from that post that you have no such shops around where you live.

Except for Morrigan, Belldandy and Horo just took 1 week to
finish. You can actually finish it within 3 days though..
im just quite lazy when I worked on this 2. But Morrigan took
me 3 weeks.
