All things Gundam

I think we should start a thread to discuss everything about Gundam. You can discuss anything or everything as long as it is related to Gundam. The Gundam universe is so big there can be a lot of things to discuss.

when did you start to watch Gundam?

Guess I'll start with mine...

I remember when I was 12, I really love watching robot cartoons which is the transformers but when it ended I was looking for new robot cartoons (during this time I call all thing animated cartoons). Then my friend who was also a transfomers fan borrowed me a vhs of a robot cartoon he said that was good. The cover in front was a white samurai looking robot pointing its gun upwards similar to the transformers movie animated video cover....

I watched it, it kinda surprised me at first since the robot is piloted by a person since I usually watched transformers where the robot is already an intelligent being. There's lot of talking but I don't care much of the storyline I just wanted to watch the robot fight. (Luckily I was watching the final battle at A Baoa Qu) And in the final showdown the images of the Gundam without its head and left hand pointing its gun towards the sky just struck me in awe and that day I became a Gundam fan.

Also they even made a Gundam statue in Japan, lol!

That was G Gundam.

Yeah, my first one was Wing Gundam as well, After being captivated, I enter "Research Mode" and starting to know all the gundams there are. After that I started from The first Gundam, then Z Gundam, ZZ Gundam etc..etc..

I didn't like G Gundam to be honest, the mechs never impressed me and I hated the protagonist, plus that was during the whole Yu-Gi-Oh heart of the cards crap and I couldn't stand watching it knowing at any moment there would be a good time to scream out "I believe in the heart of the cards" and it would be appropriate for the theme.

I watched 0083 first. Back then I thought Gato in the GP02 was badass. Actually, I still do...

GP-02A Physalis IS badass. In fact, that nuke is technically one of the strongest weapons in Gundam, technically surpassing the Twin Buster Rifle, which is pretty much F-91 era. The problem is Gundam 0083 is that they made the designs TOO ADVANCED. The GP-01 Fb Full Vernian had mobility that surpassed CCA era mobile suits and the GP-02A Physalis's nuke is pretty much unmatched. Now, the GP-03 Dendrobium Orchis and all its missiles could take out Crossbone era Mobile Armors, since the missiles would break through their I-Field defenses. Nueu Ziel is also in a similar position. This is why they said that the data for the Gundams was erased at the end. It was a way to cover their ass for when Zeta Gundam popped up.

The first time I really know about Gundam was when a close friend inform me about Gundam W which aired from local TV station in our country. Holy shit! I was surprised because the robots have badass design and epic battles! I was amazed by Gundam Wing's bird mode and its Buster Rifle. Then I watched it until the end of episodes. After that, I began to explore more bout the other Gundams and I began to play Gundam-related video games such as Super Robot Wars, Gundam vs Z Gundam, etc.
I kept searching more resources to be able to watch Gundam series. So, after Gundam W, I watched Gundam Seed, Gundam Seed Destiny, Gundam X, G Gundam, Gundam Z, etc.

First Gundam I watch is Wing Gundam when I was 13, after that I played game like Super Robot Wars and discover more gundam series. Go out and find more Gundam videos. Have my childhood raped by dramatic deaths in UC gundam (Gundam 0080, Z Gundam, CCA) lol j/k

But UC series gave me "impact" that makes me a gundam fan like now.

i saw the original Gundam in english, i cant remember when, it was epic then i saw Gundam Wing and G Gundam, all were on tv then i got on the internet and found more

firstly i watched Wing Gundam. it was like 5 years ago (i'm 20). though i dont understand about political things but i do love the battle. then i play Gundam Battle Assault,continue to SD Gundam G Generation F,and ended being an UC era fanatics

it makes me suprise to know that amuro didnt die yet (he vanished along with Axis,but..) and make reappearance in Crossbone Timeline,including Grey Stoke

I got into Gundam through Gundam Wing. Then I worked my way up from there. Watching this has really changed my life. Because of this, I was actually exposed to more anime.

Char and Amuro are still alive. They just disappeared within Psycho Frame resonance. I've seen the picture of em but I forget where I found em... -__-
They make their reappearance in Crossbone era as well as Judau Ashta who changes his name into Grey Stoke!! ^_^

Sadly, I still dunno what Amuro and Char's role in that time. But it looks like Char is with Crossbone Vanguard folks. As for Judau, he helped Crossbone Gundam team with his modified ZZ Gundam named Gump.

I think we're talking about 2 different things... -__-

Dun worry about spoiler thing, bcause I know there's a MS named Amakusa in Skull Heart which has Amuro's AI as its pilot. And in the end, that AI become the real Amuro's mind to help Tovia and makes Psycho Frames resonance.

And what i was talking about is I've seen a picture taken from a gundam manga that shows Char and Amuro among the Crossbone Vanguard guys. Char is wearing CV uniform, as for Amuro I forgot what's he wearing. Their faces are old but still cool with their uniform. I dunno that picture is official or not, but my friend from Japan showed me that pic and he said he took it from local anime magazine there. Sadly, I forgot where I store that pic. TT_TT

But the official thing is Char has 2 clones. One clone is appeared in Gundam UC in UC 0096 as Full Frontal, and the other one is appeared in Gaia Gear in UC 0203.

Gundam Wing was also my first Gundam, saw it on Toonami, but I actually didn't like the series. I don't recall why since it's been a while, but it was probably a mixture of my dislike for the main characters (I like Kira more than Heero because at least Kira shows some emotion sometimes) and the intense popularity of the series among my friends. They loved it so much, despite its flaws, that it made me hate it even more. Not a "I hate it because it's popular" thing, but more of a "It doesn't deserve this much love" thing.

I enjoyed G Gundam because it was basically DBZ with giant robots. Good fun, but it didn't draw me into the Gundam universe or anything.

I first got drawn in when I saw part of an episode of the original 0079 series late at night, possibly on Adult Swim. (I'm not sure if it was Toonami Midnight or whatever or AS.) It was the episode where Amuro fights the Black Tri-Stars. He killed one of them, and that was it. Ten minutes weren't spent mourning the death of the character; tears weren't shed by everybody; and it wasn't some monumental event. It was death during wartime, and it was common. At that moment, I realized that this show was for me. I was sick and tired of shows where nobody died, including bad guys, and if somebody did happen to die, it was a huge event that rivaled the dropping of a nuclear bomb.

It wasn't until a few years later that I was able to download and watch the entire series, but once I started, I couldn't stop. I plowed through 0079, Zeta, and ZZ. Even when I took a break from watching various series, the thoughts of the stories and characters remained. And they will always remain.

Yesterday, I finished watching Seed Destiny, and with that, I have watched all of the Gundam television series (as well as most everything else). God, I love this series. Even the worst Gundam series can still be enjoyed, which is a testament to how good the series is.

I actually liked Seed Destiny, the first few episode was pretty enjoyable to watch. Somewhere in the middle the show started going downhill and it was a torture for me to watch. I have no problem with G though, since it was really meant to be ridiculous with the weird timeline and MS design.

SEED Destiny was actually promising in the beginning. The thought of a ZAFT side story was interesting and gave us a new perspective on the other side of the battlefield. As like with everyone else, things changed but not for the better.

G Gundam was enjoyable and was pretty good if you can get past all the ridiculous and funky looking Gundams... *cough Mermaid Gundam cough*

Let's not forget the awesome Nether Gundam aka Hurricane Gundam. A name that brings terror to the G fighters...
