American Government: Separating Religion and State

This aint the "are you for gay marriage/should it be legalized?" I'm talking about something different. I am talking about laws that are being violated in making it illegal.
America's earlier presidents declared it that the combining of religion and state/government is wrong, and (I think) illegal. Yeah there are some states that have legalized gay marriage, but why would gay marriage be illegal? It is (mostly) religious people who have a problem with it, I am not religious, and have no problem with it. However people I know who are religious are against it. I mean not to be stereotypical, but a lot of people who are against gay marriage are people who go to church or are dedicated to god, but there are people who are not religious, and against it. This is a country where we are all (supposed) to be free, so what is against the law about gay marriage? Which brings me to my ultimate point, WHY is gay marriage illegal? i do not see the problem with it, so WHY? WHY WHY WHY???

why? hahaha...simple. because religious people, and in my opinion, religion itself, are so fucked up that if possible they want their religion practiced by all atoms in this world.

The religion itself isn`t wrong (It is one of the truth).... But the fact to push it to everyone is wrong.... and it makes people that has no religion can`t do anything.... Just hope that won`t happen.... When it happen, well u can start asking what they mean by freedom (BTW I`m not from u`r country.. I`m just one that is in that religion country and I know the pain.... Hehehehehe)
