How many here are members of an anime/japan/hentai club?
I'm actually the president of my local anime club. We're a small club, and we haven't really had much success due to lack of resources, and lack of public interest. We do have our own AMV we made (It sucks, but I like it) that can be found Here. Apart from that, we're currently making a Gurren Lagann trailer for our community, to see if anybody wants to watch it.
One more thing, can anybody think of awesome things to do with an anime club? I'm afraid i'm kind of short on ideas.

Afraid not. Not anything in "real life" anyway. Anime wise, the only clubesque activities I am in would be as an active member of Myanimelist, and the owner of the Fakku club on there.
I once tried to get a group of my high school friends to start something, but we never had the initiative to do it. Probably because we wanted it on a semi-official level, and our tastes in anime couldn't have been more different.

Curious and Wondering
Well... I was never a member of any anime club (since I didn't really want to join due to the exorbitant fees), but I attend a lot of school fairs. And most of the anime clubs either do cosplay, organize jrock concerts and/or do anime souvenir booths.
Here's an idea. I admit this is cliche, but it works out pretty well with the non-otaku people. One university anime club, whose school fair cosplay activity I attended once, set up their own manga library in one of their two club rooms. They charge about Php 15 (about $ 0.3) per hour of reading. It helped with getting them a lot of money for funds since there are a LOT of people who want to kill time with manga reading. And the water's free from their water cooler.

Bringing up a subject like anime on my school is equal to social suicide, unfortunately. So that would be a no... would love to try it though.

Back in High School I wanted to join one, but I didn't fit in because I wasn't as obsessed with anime as the other members were. Plus, they talked about Naruto a lot and I hate it.

1.How about introduce them to the world of visual novels and eroges? In my place almost every single anime watcher's knowledge is limited to the anime and not it's adaption, increase their level of otaku-ness. Im sure they would be glad to know about where their favourite animes come from, and plus, most of the VNs story telling are Better then the anime adaption.
2.Create your own original doujin, get to learn the process for doujin making.
3.Make a recommended list to each other for epic must watch animes, Higurashi, clannad etc, and make sure everyone watches it to smoothen discussions.
4.You can maybe introduce them to fighting games such as SF4, Melty blood and make competitions. I used to played meltyblood with my circle of friends and got addicted, and always compete against each other.

There was a Unofficial anime club at my school...and everyone in it was a Narutard!
They hated me cause i knew way more anime than they did. They also hated the fact that i knew about all the Naruto crap before they did( they watched the American version...).
So i dropped out of the club on the third day!

I remember the anime club in High School.
It was full of weird people. Why is it that anime naturally attracts weird people? There was probably one hot chick in the bunch and the club had about 10 members, tops.

I hide the fact I like anime. All the people who our in the anime club here are fat overweight males, underweight lanky males, ugly females, fat females, ugly fat females.
...and as such I keep my liking of anime very private les' I be associated with them. Its those people liking anime that set the stereotype that everyone who likes anime is a 'geek'
I don't like the reasons you people are giving as to why you haven't joined one. I just think the people who like anime are fags where I'm at and don't want them talking to me thinking they can somehow relate.

I guess I'm lucky. Since I have a friend who happens to be an anime fan AND also one of the smartest dudes in our class. none of the other classmates diss him for being an anime fan :). heck, there are a LOT of anime fans in my joint so it's no problem.
besides that, if there's a person who is no fan of anime, that's ok. as long as he doesn't associate me with the likes of 'losers' and 'nerds'. I even remembered the time I was called such... but it was awkward, since HE'S AN ANIME FAN HIMSELF! It was so weird for me that I didn't even bother retorting. and If I'd feel left out because I'm an anime fan, It's still good since I happen to enjoy solitude.

Like many others, I wouldn't have the guts to join a high school anime/manga club, though it's not bad in the collegiate level. I used to be in one before I switched colleges, and here are some of the things they did, of which many people here have also mentioned:
- Karaoke events: bring in an AMV, OP/ED video, or a music file with the romaji lyrics in a decent-sized room and let loose.
- Gaming events: 2D fighters, like Street Fighter, Melty Blood, and yes, the Naruto fighting games are also immensely popular due to having the ability to have 4 players play at once.
- Weekly anime watching events: usually people in the club vote on what anime to show in these events, and usually require an auditorium. I never participated because I get my shit for free, but it's a good way to bring new blood in. Also, selling Japanese snacks like Pocky and Pretz and other food is a good idea for fund-raising since anyone could come in and watch for free.
- Cosplay events: This is one idea I'm not enthusiastic about because not many people cosplay, which leads me to my next idea
- Planned Con events: Otacon, Sakuracon, whatevercon. They're great for field trips and soaking in the anime/manga culture, and always best in a group of friends.
- Renting DVDs/manga library: having a library of DVDs and manga is a good idea, especially reading manga in enclosed spaces with refreshments. Probably something cheap for half hour, and cheaper by the hour. Renting DVDs can also be a good way to earn funds, like a dollar for one week for x amount of DVDs.
