No, don't misunderstood me. I love giant robot,mech and their game, it just that in my neighborhood area there isn't a lot of shop selling PC,PS2 game. Even if there are any, there isn't much choice to choose from but the internet connection here is good. So most of the time I'm on the net more than playing game...
Early mech purpose. I think it would have something to to with construction I guess. As building become taller and built on unstable ground, they might need help from mech. The size of the mech might varies but the definition of "giant" change over time...

Early robots for construction eh, considering the risks of working in the construction area it would be really helpful. Also nice find, there's also some video in YouTube showing how they are used.

So the people from Victorian era do comes up with these kind of machine. It seems like the first humanoid looking robot is the Steam Man, really interesting. Also, Boilerplate seems to interest me a lot, from joining battles to the expedition in Alaska though it seems Boilerplate is a work of fiction. I wonder if it actually moves...
