Well, what do you think? Can a working one be made on the scale at which we see mechs?
I know now we have something like power armor in the military. Nothing to grand, but yeah...
Also, your thoughts on the practicality of mecha. My personal thoughts are that... They're dumb, but if you can get that type of armor... Why not equip it to high speed fighter jets instead...? Or something... I don't know... xD
Well... When you watch Gundam though... Tanks and Fighters seem moot. Haha...
Also, what do you think is actually feasible? The ones I see that can actually maybe be made are Veritechs and NEXTs...
The most feasible mech would definately have to be mechs from BattleTech...

Lol. Iono. xD Whatever!

Are Mecha Feasible?
Honestly, a round of Armor-piercing shots to the legs is the quickest way to take down a mecha (assuming we are talking about machines that are in a shape of a human).
A armored suit like Ironman or Guyver is more feasible than a mecha that is tall as a building.
Spoiler:
Well if somebody manages to accelerate the mobility of this mecha then, maybe it's possible.
A mecha isn't feasible in the slightest. I can't word it correctly but my friend in the military ranted about how tanks something and a mecha would be useless no matter how cool it looks.
A mecha is stupid but a mecha suit (For like infantry, human sized) I can see being usefull. Like the Space Marines.
Me too, just what I thought. They can just tank it up. But if you want Gundam style fighting, it's similar to Jet dog fight. Y'know? Boosting, lock-on, keeping target in sight.
everyone talking about battle mecha what about other uses. Construcition mecha might work building iron buildings with human like arms. It'd remove the need for immobile cranes and with added features could place a beam with one hand while other would act as a welder and rivoter to connect the pieces.

Well the thing is the cranes we use today would have been far upgraded by the time we could use a mecha construct bot. So really it wouldn't be an improvement at all. I'm sure RIGHT NOW if mechas just suddenly became available they'd be usefull.
Mecha's just a short name for 'mechanical objects'. Cars, planes, tanks, jetfighters, robot workers, all are, technically mecha. So, yes, technically.
If you're talking about Gundam, GaoGaiGar, etc? No. Maybe treaded mecha, wheeled mecha, potentially four legged mecha. But no, mecha seen in anime, and are awesome to play with in toy form (hey, I love mecha in toy form myself, why not?) is definitely not feasible.
Unless we go major construction work in space or under water and need, for some reason, to have a humanoid form doing the work. But they're not good for combat.
Though I can see people using mecha for publicity and the like. Corporate PR and all.
Giant robots would only be feasible in space, where there isn't gravity to weigh the things down.
But if we did ever use them for war, they probably wouldn't start out as war machines. I believe it was some Gundam series (maybe the original, I don't remember) that said that mechs started out as tools, used to help construct stuff in space, and later they started being used to fight. And that makes sense. Building a giant fucking space colony with only humans would be hard as fuck and would take forever. We'd need giant machines to do it. And if those machines could move as fast in space as a jet could on earth, why not use them to fight?
Two legged giant mecha will be a problem to work, the first problem is the center of gravity for the mechanical units in other words the balancing of the mecha, will it be able to stand and move properly in the battlefield or the city? Another issue is the speed of the mecha, will it be able to move fast? With the current technology it might be able to but it will be slow as hell. The only way for mecha to move is by putting a jet backpack or booster pack but then the mecha have to only fly which makes the leg kinda useless.
Like others said it might be possible if using thread or caterpillar type legs. Gundam might take a while to exist but something like a Guntank would be possible.
