The epic battle
As you already know, in the end, SF pawned Legend, and IJ does the same to Destiny.. But mech-wise, those 4 are equals.. SF is doing Beam spamming competition with Legend, and finally able to shake Rey with Kira's magic words before pawning it.. And The injured Athrun also got his luck because of the stupidity of Impulse and ended up pawning Destiny (Well.. not really called luck tho, since it was actually harder from him to protect Impulse as well as dodging Destiny's Shining Finger)..

I think that Kira and Athrun have so much more going for them that it's no wonder why they pwned the Shinn and Rey team. And Kira actually wanted to kill (which he doesn't due to his pacifist ways), they'd all be dead in seconds if not minutes.

I agree with g-money. Kira has always been laid back by his desire not to kill anyone. If that's removed those potential inside him would trash out and ultimately crush his enemies. Even with that disadvantage he was able to fight Shin on par *even got the upper hand*. Athrun... well I'm putting him on a level close to Kira but not entirely Kira, but he's still much better than the immature duo *fans please forgive me for my term*.

Kira potentially has the ability to kill either or both Rey and Shinn. It's because of his pacifist ways that prevent him from doing so. Somehow I keep thinking of Lacus when I'm thinking Kira doesn't want to kill.

Rey was a good pilot, but I don't think he was on par with Shinn. Equal or slightly less in skill.

I can't imagine it... I always admired the Kira x Lacus couple. (But at least they could kiss for crying out loud!)
The thing is, Kira and Athrun have experience from the previous war, and their suits are upgraded to the max by the time they face off. Shinn comes off as an arrogant prick and Rey's a little pussy - I might be giving the latter two less credit, but that's the impression I get from them, and that hampers their battle tactics and judgment.

I didn't agree that Rey is less skilled than Shinn.. If you watch the vid i gave you, and see the battle between Strike Freedom vs Legend, you might agree that that battle qualities is much better than Destiny vs IJ..
It's more like a RTS (Real Time Strategy) game, while controlling about 8-10 DRAGOON units to move and shoot, they also must share their brains to dodge, block, shoot (with rifle), and close combat.. Without the magic words, Kira will have to give everything he got to tear him off..
And yes, he got no SEED.. But if you comparing their performance in the last episode, SEEDed Shinn with his Destiny can't even damage the injured Athrun, who didn't even use his SEED (till the last blow).. And needless to say, the battle isn't on the same level as SF vs Legend..

If anything, I hated the match-up for the final battle. Sure, Shin has beef with Athrun for being a traitorous bastard, but Kira was the entire REASON he was in ZAFT. That was his reason to fight and Rey was taking it instead. Rei should have been fighting Mwu La Flaga to continue the rivalry that Rau left behind. Of course, Luna would be left with Athrun unfortunately, but she does have a good enough reason to fight him. He did take her sister from her after all. Then again...you could go the DWG2 route and have Shin fight both Kira and Athrun.
At the same time, if you go the Awakening Light ending, Shin kills both Kira and Athrun. It was in the Generation of CE and since it was released before the ending aired, the developers admitted that it was the original planned ending.

Lol I always thought Shin was too cocky for his own good. Not just his arrogance but his lack of sense will cause him to never become as good as Athrun or Kira. (And I say never because the series is done and you can't see him improve anymore and we don't know for sure if he did lose that attitude of his in the last few minutes of the episode.) So him ever beating both Kira and Athrun is a joke considering he carries less experience and to be perfectly honest, his mech kind of sucks compared with the rest if you ask me.

Face it, Kira is god in and out his mecha, and him and Athrun make all the bitches wet. Hell, Athrun had a harem going in SEED Destiny - that was hilarious.
As for Shinn, he has to realize that the world doesn't revolve around his narrow-minded, egotistic view. I was pretty happy when Athrun sliced and diced Shinn's gundam in the last fight.

Some reasons why it wouldn't happen..
1. Kira's Ultimate Cooridnator which means, he's a superior species than Shinn..
2. Kira's a zombie.. Like GSDA said
3. Strike Freedom >> Destiny.. definitely.. I've checked both specs some time ago, and SF owned Destiny in every factor except for Speed, which Destiny wins slightly..
4. Shinn's in the wrong side.. I wonder what will happen to the ending if he really does win..
5. Reason 1-3..If he can't even do SF, How the hell can he kill both SF and IJ?..

In Gundam Musou 2, he does manage to defeat both Athrun and Kira, but only because it's Shin's Story Mode. Honestly though, Shin might have won if he had the Destiny Impulse opposed to the Destiny Gundam itself.
