The last reboot was due to the power getting knocked out of the back of the box. Had to run fsck on /dev/hda1 - /dev/hda2 that time.

pshh, access codes? :roll: We don't need no stinkin access codes! :twisted: Give me my XPS, a stable web hookup, my main tech buddy (whos name I will not be releasing to the general public :oops: ), and a bit of time, and I could have that server plucked, stuffed, roasted, and served up on a gilded platter........maybe. :lol: It's been a while since I tried anything like that, so I'm not quite up to speed with the newest protection setups out there anymoar. So the server will not be boarded, overtaken, and set up under the jolly roger anytime soon. Not by me anyway.

Access codes to gain entrance to the apartment complex. It's changed every 6 months, and the doors are locked with electromagnetic locks. The glass is bulletproof, and the only way to gain entry would be to cut the power, alerting Hibia of your presense.

Thus failing.

Also, you seem to underestimate Hibia. There hasn't been someone who tried hacking him that kept their internet connection.

Hibia note: The XPS line of laptops are overpriced. My Dell Vostro 1500 was cheaper and outperformed most of the XPS laptops.

yeah, I know the XPS was overpriced, but it was what I got. I don't like spending time going over all the differnet models made by different companies, and them comparing and contrasting the specs...it makes my head hurt too mush. It waz advertised on sale, so I got it. And as far a gaining entry, all it would take was to isolate the circuit the lock runs off of and blow it out. but that would take a bit of work, and I h8te working hard when I don't have to. I could also shoot the lock out with an small caliber handgun w/homemade silencer, but that would be too illegal for my tastes. That and I h8te ppl who uze gunz for shit like that. And while the glass may b bullet proof, how well will it work against a glass cutter tipped with depleted uranium? (don't ask how I got ahold of one of those, I'm a collector of the oddest thingz :oops: ) I also wouldn't uze my own internet connection, I'm not that stupid. I'd probably piggy-back off of someone with bigtime bandwidth who wouldn't be able to notice someone else using it unless they were really good. your move, Rei-chan. :wink: (I'm quite enjoying this little chess game of witz, if I do say so myself.)

You can't shoot an electromagnetic lock that is on the other side of a bulletproof door. The power cutting was your only option there, buuuut...
You can't isolate a circuit that is on the other side of the bulletproof door.
Glass cutting would alert Hibia of your presence, probably.
Attacking Hibia's server externally would again, be pointless. The router barely lets authenticated traffic through as it is. The last line of access would still get you booted out, any external attempts at root gets the IP address blacklisted and, again, Hibia is alerted.

Give me a spoon, your address, a few weeks/months (Depending on subterranean hindrances.) and I'll see you on the other side of that door, announcing myself only through eventually surprise buttsecks. That, and a probably huge tunnel exit in your basement, but at the time you notice it'll be TOO LATE.
