Yeah I joined eHarmony and I'm not sure if its gonna go good.
I've got several potential matches but not many are interested in me.
i guess just wanna hear what you all think of online dating sites and if my choice to pay for eHarmony was a bad idea or not. Just wanna hear some opinions on it.

imo, bad idea. it just doesn't worth it.

Hmmm never known anyone who's actually used one. Tell us (in great detail) how that works out.

I think it's a bunch of bullshit. Especially in the ads when they say, "If you don't find a match in six months, we'll give you six months free." So, if you try for six months and get nothing, you don't get your money back, you just get six more months, which will probably again yield nothing? Thanks a fucking lot.

I think all those matchmaking things are bullshit. Why pay money to meet people? There are people all around! There are bars, social networking sites (that are free), bowling alleys, friends of friends of friends, etc. If you haven't met someone, you aren't trying hard enough. It's like a video game; there's always a way to beat it.

My mom used them before. Since she's a single mom n' all. She hasn't had any luck.

She's gotten everything from a really nice guy until he finds out she has a cat and he disappears to a 17 year old kid who said 'I wish you were my mom.'

She's made good friends through social networking sites. But she never had any luck with places like eharmony.

I think I have your answer to the 'why pay money to meet people' question though, because I've asked this to my moms friends who have also been on the sites that require money. They said they'd rather go on a site where a guy is willing to pay to meet a nice girl. They said they feel like it sorta skims through all the cheap assholes. That if a guy is paying money he's being serious that he wants a good relationship. So they say.

I don't really believe in searching for loved ones. I sorta feel like they appear when it's right, that you can't force a good thing. I (personally) think that it's why there's so many failed relationships. People feel the need to stick themselves in one and it may not necessarily be a relationship meant for them, or good for them. It's just a fix. Duck tape if you will.

Agree, you can always go to bar, game centre to find people, and there are free social networking sites.
I don't think matchmaking is a bad idea, but I think it's better if you could find it yourself rather than do online dating or matchmaking.

I met someone and we have been talking about 3 hrs a day average for a little while.

here is what she said to me over messenger after i went to sleep.

ME: nite

HER: sleep well

ME: u2

Huh, I have no knowledge of eHarmony or those date related sites. To me I think it's just a waste of time. I rather go out and meet girls that way. More fun than just chatting over the internet.

Well, one way to think about it is this way: you are willing to try out eHarmony to find a serious relationship, so there exists some such demographic of people. The fact that it is a paysite does probably filter out many of the idiots who just want to mess around.

I've always had the following observation about online communication in general too: even when IMing, one generally has a lot more time to think about what one is saying before sending it. There are a lot of people who aren't super quick on their feet, but have a lot of really good things to say. If you met this person at a party, they might fade into the background and not say much, but online, they have a chance really let their personality come through. I think online dating and communication in general can be a boon to these people, who would have a tough time getting past the initial stages in a party environment. After all, maybe that girl in the corner is really an interesting and amazing person, and while you might find this out if you sat down in a quiet environment and talked for an hour, but at a party, there is too much else commanding attention.

Personally, I find the whole idea of their compatibility matches kind of interesting. I wonder how successful it is. Can you boil down the difference between successful and failed relationships to a set of raw statistics? Well, no, but maybe collecting and applying statistics can increase the probability of success by some degree. I'm sure it's probably secret, but I think it would be fascinating to know exactly how they calculate matches.
