i totally don't agree, many characters would be tagged with an epic death if your qualifications were true, only the actual death should be considered epic, not losing a fight you have previously won 8 seconds before.
so an epic death would just have to drag out the 'i'm dyyyying' part longer, with epic past flashbacks or popping out as ghost and talking jibberish about 'ill be with you forever' or whatever you may consider as 'epic'
Full of sarcasm but in seriousness, elaborate your 'epic death'
flash backs help, so do speeches of epicness but mostly the manor of death, large nuclear explosions while saving a truck load of lolis... or a death while sitting or standing in an epic pose, if you've ever seen the 13th warrior you know what an epic death pose can do. Possibly making your final last words really matter, but a quick clean decapitation that took all of 7 seconds would not qualify in my book. This is all opinion based btw, just because i don't agree with you doesn't mean my opinion is the right one, even though it is and you're wrong.
Although I know people will make fun of me just for mentioning it, I think that Momochi Zabuza's death in Naruto qualifies as epic. It was just fun to watch.
