ExtraCurricular Activities

Now that the school term has started for some, depending on where you are from and your current level of education, it brings back memories of extra-curricular activities I have joined in the past.

Ever since you started education, what extra-curricular activities have you participated in? Sports Club, such as football, tennis, basketball; Student Councils; Topic Specific Clubs, such as Chemistry, Maths... Name them! Or were you part of the "going-home" club? :mrgreen:

Why did you choose to join that particular extra-curricular activity? Out of interest? Because the hottest female/male in school is a member? Feel free to talk about how your past and current extra-curricular activities have affected your life.

Here is my extra-curricular activity profile:
Primary Education- Art Club, focusing on Chinese Painting, in my 5th year. Chess Club in my 6th and final year of primary education.

Reason(s) for Joining- I can't really remember why I joined the art club. Perhaps I was fascinated by chinese paintings back then. As for the chess club, it was a good outlet to enjoy the game with several of my friends and classmates.

Secondary Education- Uniformed Group, not unlike that of Boys Brigade and Girl Guides, though it had something to do with national defence.

Reason(s) for Joining- Mainly because one of my best friends signed up and I was dragged along. Stuck with it for all 4 years

Junior College- School Librarian. Not unexpected right?

Reason(s) for Joining- All or most of the sports clubs available were looking for members who could win competitions and obviously, I wasn't experienced enough. The school library was a place where I could seek solace.

Perhaps due to my experience as a librarian, I have come to fancy female characters who play the role of librarians in anime series. Aoi-chan from Myself; Yourself, Nodoka from Negima and Manaka from To Heart 2. :D

In my Primary school days I've tried almost everything : Boyscout, Soccer, Computer ETC. Guess the reason is to discover my real talent.

In junior high school I've tried martial arts
Reason to boost my self-confidence and for security.

In High School I've joined a Japanese Club.
Reason, to study Japanese language and culture, and a place to hang out with people with similar "Hobbies"

In college (now) I've joined again with my martial arts dojo
The reason now is to take a higher level

Aside from that I also have a Extra-curricular activities outside of school
I joined a Tennis club when i was in 3rd grade of primary school till now.

I believe I was in a public speaking... club, I guess. I was rather vocal and charismatic in my pre-teen days. Throughout the education system after that club, I avoided any and all clubs and groups, as their interests never happened to fall in my small circle of interest. I did make a mildly successful anime club however.

Also, Gambler. This isn't exactly random, this is a serious question for people to think about, so I'd go for the serious discussion forum next time. Thanks.

Be prepared for a very long and boring post.

Primary School
- Advanced classes (where we do extra, random stuff like caligraphy, IQ puzzles, mind puzzles, art, etc.)
- Chess Club (I was the captain of the team for my final two years)
- Soccer Club
- School Productions (basically, the productions are scheduled as such that every student will participate in one every two years. I had the lead role during my fourth year, and was an MC in the sixth year)
- Swimming training outside school (started when I was 10; I was part of a swimming club)

Secondary School
- Chess Club (for a couple years. Got bored of it eventually)
- Interhouse and Interschool Swimming Galas (For interhouse, I was undefeated until my final year, where I got two second places T_T. For interschool, I sometimes got within the top three with my better strokes. Also participated in national competitions)
- School Drama Productions (didn't get lead roles except for one year, where I played the lead villain. We did Greased Lightning once)
- Piano Competitions (outside of school)
- Interhouse and Interschool Basketball, Rounders, and Volleyball (nowhere as good as my swimming, but still decent I suppose. No interschool badminton/tennis etc. I played those regularly though with friends)

College
- Varsity Swimming (I'm pretty average compared to the rest of them, so I never won anything)
- Pianist (I'm known for being technically skilled and a very fast learner. Currently a piano minor)
- Badminton Club
- Tennis Club
- Chinese Culture Club (though I never go to meetings. I just show up for the events)
- Japanese Culture Club (same thing can be said here)
- A student-run club where we put up a show once every semester. We basically play numbers from musicals; there's a pit, and on the stage we sing and dance. Very time consuming but very fun.
- I also self-studied Japanese, if that counts.
- FAKKU Admin!!!

In short, I'm a very busy man.

Our schools don't support this stuff.

The only thing I've ever heard of is a soccer club, and that doesn't surprise me with all the turks. :roll:

I had some martial arts stuff going on outside school, though I was so freakin talented my teacher didn't know what to do with me and I got bored pretty fast.

Today I wish I had continued it, though.

Sometimes, I can't really tell the difference between the "Random" and "Serious" sections. Nonetheless, I will try harder in placing my future topics in the appropriate sections. :)

in elementary i want really in any clubs but i played soccer and basketball. i wasnt actually the best but i still enjoyed it

In my youngest years I was in ballet and a cheerleader. Middle school didn't offer much beyond sports, so I didn't join anything. In high school, I was part of an environmental club, a book club, and a movie club. Now that I'm in college, my free time is spent at my job.
