yes, it does look nice, and I agree... a good claymore (or zweihander) would kick more ass than that sword would.
my fetish opinion hasn't changed I'm a sucker for mini skirts and thigh highs.... just as long as the woman wearing them doesn't belong in the killer whale species.
That sort of sword is designed for use on Horseback, with the double blades allowing for quick and sure strokes without overmuch danger of lopping the horse's head off.
However, it can also be used by people of high physical strength in single combat. Ep...23, I think, of Pumpkin Scissors demonstrated this. She fought off two dozen trained soldiers armed with a variety of melee gear, ranging from, if memory serves, rapiers to broadswords.
Also, there was something about having metal shoes as part of the style, but all I remember about that is one edge, lodged in the ground, being kicked out for a overhead sweep.
Also, while it does add charm, the sword wasn't the main point of the picture >_<.
Also... anime often uses fighting styles that aren't really... practicle. Obviously, they don't have to constrict to the confines of the real world.
So...
Bah, that image has no effect on me, for I have worked out the perfect counter-argument!
You see, Fantasy can be said to fall into two categories: Real-Type, and Fireball-type (Or, if you want, True Fantasy-Type). In Real-Type, one must remember that the author has to emulate the laws and limitations of the currently understood physical universe, while in Fireball-Type, they can go nuts.
Since Pumpkin Scissors is mostly a Real-Type, a fair argument can be made about the usage of Alice's sword.
PS: (Also, as a side note, watch the damned episode. It looked pretty realistic to me, and I'm not a novice at sword fighting.)
PSS: (Though I personally prefer lances.)
