G Router, N Router, or N+ Router
Which Type of Router is better?

Which is better in this situation? Im looking to speand $75-$110 for a router. I would like for it to give me fast speeds for downloading music, pictures, and videos. I would also love for it to give me no lag when I play online games on my Laptop or PS3.
Thanks in advance. Oh also another question. My latop keeps turning off randomly when I move it slightly. Why is it doing that and what can I do to fix it? Its a Dell Insprion 15 Refurbished. Limited Warrenty

if you have good reception with G, I see no point in getting an N network unless you do a lot of HD media streaming from another computer or you have a ton of people using that one router at one time. wireless G will also be faster than your internet can download/upload unless you have more than 54mbps internet. Ps3 only has wireless G afaik.

Well my mom is constantly (12 hours a day) on the computer so does that count? And isnt there a website i can use to find out how fast my internet is?

Its pretty much impossible to be faster than 54 mbps unless you hacked your modem or something. You should be looking at latency and range, which I have no idea what they would be.

Ok i did it and this is how fast my internet is.
Last Result:
Download Speed: 258 kbps (32.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 108 kbps (13.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

No reason to stick with older technology. Get N. It's faster and has a lot more range then wireless G.

Wireless 802.11G routers are cheap. Getting a Linksys WRT54GL would be a great investment. It's robust enough to handle anything you throw at it and by loading dd-wrt, you have many more options available to you that you would normally find on a $300+ router.
As for your laptop; if it is still under warranty, I would suggest giving Dell a call to see if they can service it for you.

Upload Speed: 3603 kbps (450.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
but btw idk if this effect anything or not but i think it depend on the computer ur using or laptop you have mainly the reason for it to go so fast or slow

Ok I want my signal to be faster also. Because when I try to see the signal on my PS3 it says its like 45%. Could you guys link specific routers that you think would help.
Also its not staying connected to my PS3 like right now it says it cant connect but my laptop can connect just fine.

Wireless is dodgy for online gaming your best bet if you can cater for it is to us a cabled network for online gaming otherwise wireless is great for browsing the net and such so long as you're in optimal range.

The percentage means that your PS3 is only getting a weaker signal.
Try moving it closer to the router and see what happens.
There are many contributing factors to a degraded signal any of the following can affect your signal; interference from other household appliances eg. Microwaves, you have walls in between your router and PS3/PC, or external factors like mobile phone masts ect.
Generally the less obstruction you have between the router and your receiving point the better your signal also certain routers can be upgraded with stronger antennas.

Anyway that aside I'd recommend a D-Link Wireless N router. I'd never wish Linksys on my worst enemies, while their routers in general are great, their wireless, at least wireless G models, have always been incredibly lacking. (horrible stability mostly) I've never faced any problems what-so-ever with my wireless N from D-Link though.

To get the best signal, you really have to play around with your router. Just placing it at different places in your room to see which give you the strongest signal.
I don't think ps3 is equipped with wireless N technology yet. I believe ps3 uses G. If you do decide to get wireless N router, get one that has both N and G.
Also, there are wireless N routers out there that can have dd-wrt custom firmware. There really is no reason to stick to only G unless you're on a really really tight budget and need something right away.

I cant find it online nor can I find the box. Its a Dynex router bought it for $34 at best buy. 2 antennas. 2.4 Ghz
Btw I refuse to use a wire connection for my gaming systems. Last time I did I had a 50 ft ethernet cord(which is still hooked up cuz i can see it and it could BARELY reach my room.) well the cord caught under my door one day and my mom opened the door and my 360 did a 360. It flipped and hit the wall and the floor.

Well I see the flaw in the reason you refuse to use a cable is that you didn't buy a cable that was long enough.
Anyway I reckon go with the Belkin since it's got decent range on it.
Here's a comparison of the two routers.
Plus I know for a fact warranty is really easy with Belkin and their lifetime warranty is worth every penny.
