A lot of times not necessarily in hentai, but shoujo manga/anime you find 'nerdy girls' or unpopular girls liked by a really attractive guy. A downside to that is most of the time, they get a 'makeover' usually just by removing the glasses and letting her hair down and *poof* she's the hottest girl in school. Which is dumb.
I think that's why I'm so fond of the manga/anime Kimi ni Todoke. I absolutely love that anime, because there's a weird, not necessarily unattractive, but weird (and frightening to many) girl named Sawako - but she's managed to make friends and even potential relationships with people who love her for who she is. She doesn't change from the long skirt to a mini skirt, she doesn't get a haircut, she does sometimes pull it up for gym class, but who wouldn't?
There was even an episode where she was envious of Kurumi because of her beautiful hair and how people loved her, but despite Kurumi being so lovely on the outside you learned how ugly she really was on the inside. Sawako even asked her friends if they thought she'd look better with a new hair cut, or color - but her friends thought about it and just couldn't see her any other way than she was now and they preferred her to stay as who she is.
I've actually read that manga, and follow it as well. It's a good manga, I like it. Great story, great art.
