Greatest Song of all Times (NOT POPULARITY!)

How do you define greatness? Your favorite song? Are there explicit qualities you would extensively cite to defend your thesis? How do you compare across genres?

It's almost impossible to even decide what the best rock song of all time is, let alone the best piece of music. What does music even cover? Does 4:33 count?

The most popular song of all time may be in some respects measurable. There are other things one can measure too, but it may be difficult to put greatness in terms of statistics alone in the field of music. Still, statistics can at least be measured and compared, what you say about your song is pretty vague and while it might explain why you like it, it doesn't explain to me in any way why this song is better than other songs.

So, if we aren't going to go on popularity and simple favorites, why is this song the greatest song ever composed? So far, you have just talked about what effect it has on you. If greatness is objective and not based on popularity and opinion, then show me the arguments for why this is the greatest song ever. I don't believe it is yet, so convince me.

Suikoden is a video game series made by Konami computer entertainement Tokyo. This particular video, as stated above, is from the third game of the franchise and to me, the pinnacle of the series.

I'm gonna have to go with either "Hey" or "Desecration Smile" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. "Smiley Faces" is a runner up, along with "Rise" by Origa. I had a list of the best sons I've heard, but I lost it....

But its really hard to pick just one, it would be easier if you gave us the option for a list of ten or something; in fact , I bet after I post this, I'm gonna think of some different songs and get angry for not thinking of those.

Radiohead - Karma Police. Very much of it's time and yet a timeless song, and one which defined a generation.

I would have to seriously think long and hard about this. Probably because I listen to almost ever genre and lots of songs. I think I would have to choose per genre but since this thread is not about multiple best per genre but rather about the greatest of all time I don't think I can choose.

So I will post 5 genres. Maybe I'll post some more.
