Have some questions regarding how to use a forum

Hi everyone. So I'm pretty new at using the forums around here. The only reason I started posting was because of GARfest (love that idea). Anyways,I would really appreciate it if the community would please answer some of my questions.

1)If you post something and someone argues/ responds to your post, how will you know that this happened? Do you simply need to check the thread contently to see reply's?

2) WTH is rep? A penis hat?

3) What is that #IRC thingy?

4) Is there like some kind of "so you want to be a poster" section on this site?

1) Yes, but there is a function that allows you to track a thread for replies made after your post.

2) Like all ignorant noobs, read the Rules and FAQs for the love of common sense.
