HDMI computer monitor & console

Hey I was wondering, I have this spare LCD computer monitor and it has a HDMI cable input. If I bought a ps3 and connected it to the monitor would it work and how well. I sort of figured that the refresh rate may not be good enough on the monitor to handle it.

every LCD monitor has a 60hz refresh rate.
I personally don´t use HDMI cause I have a 360 and simply connect the console to my LCD monitor via VGA.
But I don´t think your LCD will cause you problems, and to the point "how well" you can keep in mind that HDMI is digital.
So there are only two cases 1. you don t get a videosignal or 2. you get a videosignal.

As you can probably tell I'm not as technically savvy as I wish I was. However I heard that computer monitors have different refresh rates some where and that's why I couldn't do it but in retrospect it seems like a stupid question.

If you don´t want to risk anything, go to a friend who has a ps3 and test it. This might be the savest way for you, but I think it will work since your LCD has a HDMI input and HDMI is a offical standart.

but if you run your LCD in native resolution, for mine it is 1680 * 1050 and if you use this then it´s always 60Hz.
And just as a fact if you can use 75Hz you can use 60Hz as well.

The LCD that I plan on buying is 120Hz.

DVI and HDMI signals are 60hz, my monitor has both a vga and dvi input. If I plug in via VGA I can chose from 60, 70, 72, and 75 hz. But If I plug in via DVI I can only choose 60hz. And seeing as HDMI's video is the EXACT same as a DVI's, it will be 60hz and have the same capabilities as DVI. HDMI is only useful if you intend to carry sound signals along with your video. If your not carrying sound signals through the HDMI cable, it won't affect anything so thats fine too. Usually people will have a kickass home theatre system and they aren't even using the monitor's speakers anyways. HDMI is pretty useful if you are plugging in your crazy blu-ray player, cable/satelite, or ps3 into your receiver because you only have to use one cable.

Ah bummer forgot that HDMI joined the sound and video together. My computer monitor has no speakers :( . Well thanks guys for giving me the info.

HDMI may carry Video and Sound but wouldn't your PS3 also have classic Composite outputs that you could use through your home theatre system WHILE using the HDMI for your high definition video?
I've got a "black box" [upscaler, etc] that does all that kinda work for me, and only outputs video along my HDMI cabling to my projector while diverting the sound to any cable or the attached speakers.
