i was wondering is this a decent laptop to play games on

For $600 (I assume USD) you will not be able to get a laptop that can run high level games without lagging. Although for your price range that looks like a relatively good laptop. Because it is a Toshiba, I would recommend that you buy it directly from the Toshiba website ( http://www.toshiba.com/tai/ )

ok,those're not around 600(starts from 729)
but those are equipped with 14.1 widescreen and standalone graphic card(usually ATI Radeon mobile).
that should be powerful enough.

It`ll barely be able to run any games, cards using shared memory, even if they have a few MB of dedicated memory, run at a pace far slower than cards using only dedicated VRAM.
Also normal RAM is several times slower than the dedicated VRAM used by a graphics card.
I had an Acer Aspire 5100 using a shared memory technology, it`s a royal pain in the ass, you won`t be able to run even years old games properly.
The CPU is actually quite decent regarding the budget.
3 GB RAM is OK too, I`m perfectly fine with 2GB RAM, so 3 are even better.
( If you`re not into music/video/photo editing or rendering that is)
I`m currently using a Samsung X65, which is about 1300€, 512MB dedicated VRAM, it works well for a laptop but can`t live up to a desktop PC at the same price. ( Your hardware is always limited in comparison to a desktop, power/space/cooling wise)
Anyway, if you want to run games, try to stay away from cards using any kind of shared memory technology, this also means you won`t find anything in this budget area, laptops with proper graphics cards start at roughly 900-950$

In the low budget area you`re usually better of looking for laptops that are on sale at your local retailer.
(a look never hurts though)
If you buy anything at 1000+ try the manufacturers website, if you`re a student check their education sites, they usually have a nice bargain for teachers and students.(bought my X65 for about 200€ off the list price using the Samsung edu program)

If u have the money, as nate said alienware is awesome. HP works wonders too, thou u'll still need quite alot of money.

The only laptop I'd ever get is a MacBook Air, even though I hate Apple. You have to give them respect for their small ass laptop.

The Macbook Air doesn't even have that much power. Sure it is small, but is expensive and you aren't getting much for your money.

I'd recommend a Toshiba if budget is an issue. Toshiba uses good parts and (if you take care of your laptop) it'll work perfectly even after 2-3 years. Also, their prices actually make sense.
