How do you deal with...

I'd like to ask the women (and some men) of Fakku how they deal with a situation I encountered a few nights ago.

I was in a bar with some new friends in my program (freshmen). We were drinking when this girl came up to the four of us and asked us how old we were. As this was my second degree I'm 4-5 years older than most of them so I felt slightly weird telling her I was 24. Low and behold she was 24 as well and was shocked by how young I looked, we talked for a bit but the time came when it would be proper for me to ask if I could buy her a drink or end the conversation with a polite "it was nice meeting you". We stopped talking and I could tell she really wanted more but I wasn't in the mood nor was she particularly my type so I said it was nice to meet you and it was over. She lingered for about 15 seconds and left after saying goodbye to everyone else. Did I handle the situation well? I don't know.

So my question to all of you is how do you deal with being approached and hit on by girls/guys that you are not attracted to? How do you deal with any awkwardness?

later that night I got stopped while heading to the washroom by a cute girl who wanted me to kiss her friend, which i obviously did as she was a cutey too. Got to talking with her but found she was a bit too young for my tastes but overall it was a good night.

i think you did fine... you dont have to feel presured about girls ,theres plenty of other guys she can hit on :wink:

I'm not the type of person that gets much attention from guys. I don't really stand out all that much, and I try to keep it that way, because I get uncomfortable when a lot of attention is directed towards me.

The times that I have been hit on were usually at work by pigs who comment on your body and ask if you have a boyfriend - I always lied and said yea, and even then they were persistent. Because saying your single is an indirect way of saying you're interested to them - at least in their minds.

Any person who showed real interest in me were friends who I spent a lot of time with and eventually admitting how they felt. My ex was in that category.

I have to admit I'm usually rather put off by guys who are real forward with me, because to me it shows they're interested in what they see, not what I am. I'd rather a guy know me for who I am first rather then look at me and try to be forward.
There's been only one guy who I met who wasn't phased by my ¬¬ attitude of being forward. I thought he was making fun of me, and I retorted back to him and just day after day he'd generally be nice to me.
Eventually I got to know him, he even stopped at my work once (he worked across the road) and I sat down with him while he ate and talked. I think he's in the army now, he mentioned joining as a tanker.

But, you did manage the situation well, you were polite but stayed firm in what you wanted without being harsh.

I say...great job.

I don't think there were any other ways to dismiss some random person like that.

@Waar: Dude, you could of gotten laid. Who cares if you weren't interested in her. She's interested in you, seemed like she wanted more but obviously by more she didn't mean conversation wise, amirite?

Lol. Anyway, When hit by people who aren't worthy [kidding..] I just tend to say "Sorry" and leave. I don't sugar coat them with explanations. Why bother? None of my explanations won't make the person feel better, by talking to him longer, it won't make them feel any less shitter when in the end I say he's not my type / I don't like him / etc.

To get rid of awkwardness, talk about anything. Even something really lame. Or even say how you admire her for getting the courage to talk to you [if you're going to bullshit her/him until you finally tell her/him to GTFO!].

Even if he could've gotten laid, if that girl was clingy, he'd have problems. Its better to just get with a girl you actually have some what interest in instead of "SEX SEX SEX"

I really don't see any reason why you would think you didn't hadle the situation well. If you really didn't think she was your type then I see no better resolve than to end it with 'It was nice meeting you.' I thin kit it was a job well done...

the point of the post was to inquire about the ways you/others have rejected people you weren't interested in. I may have handled it well but i just want to try and find a better way to deal with it, without that awkwardness; she also seemed quite disappointed that I didn't pursue her; I'd like to avoid that look/feeling. I'm not ruthless in real life and I do applaud her for having the courage to talk to someone at a bar, girls don't normally do things like that (most girls).

You can't avoid it. Being rejected always hurts even if its just slight rejection. If you wanted to pursue someone that night and the girl did the same thing to you, you wouldn't have a huge smile on your face either.

But you can't spell rejection WITH chloroform.

I guess I am slightly off-topic, but here's my question:

Since I don't visit pubs, clubs or bars, is it true that most, if not all, of these premises have an age limit placed on their customers?

If you seriously feel like lying to be nice, then lie and say you already have someone.
If you're more on the truthful side, many will see you as an asshole, but you gotta do what you gotta do, bruh. Seriously. If anyone has a problem with you being honest, there's always the arguement that you were at LEAST honest.

It's win/win for you. Don't even feel bad about what you do. Don't think twice. This happens to me everywhere. Even if I'm minding my own business at the grocery store. Do you what you need to do and don't feel bad. They know they're taking a risk.

Waar......judging from all the posts on here that I've read I don't think too many of us even have to consider your rejection problem (well not from that angle anyway). I tend to deal with the problem by....not being hit on in the first place...I'm sure plenty others here can say the same.
