You first have to place your OS install on your USB. That program formats your usb and 'burns' it onto your usb for you. Then you start from the usb by doing that.
Or you could just extract the iso file onto your USB key.

Finally have a chance to post again. Thanks for all your ideas and help; they really led me down a new direction. The one that worked was installing an OS in a USB drive, which let me format the HDD remotely. Through some networking, me and a friend were able to get our hands on an external disc drive, which took care of the installing part. The hard part, at least I thought it would be, were the drivers. But it just so happened that a driver disc I made worked out perfectly and no additional searching was required.
Truly, technology is sometimes not our best friend, but that's also what keeps things fun.
And here all of us were giving you advice to use a USB key. Hah.
