How's commissioning work?

I didn't know where to ask this, so Random works. How exactly does the process work? I know some people do it through PayPal, but that's ALL I know. Could someone tell me the in's and out's of this whole process?

I could Google it, but I figured it'd be more fun to ask you guys.

Commissioning artwork? I'd assume it's something along the lines of:

1.) Contact artist
2.) Specify work to be commissioned
3.) Send money
4.) ???
5.) Profits!

No, I mean on the artist's side of it.

1.) Get contacted
2.) Receive work to be commissioned, make work
3.) Receive money
4.) ???
5.) Profits!

Eh, screw it. My idea's stupid anyway.

You know what, I'm sorry about double posting, but I'm going to just to prove a point to my friend.

Now when I ask this, I don't need shit like "I wouldn't buy YOUR work" or some shit like that. Keep your opinions about MY work to yourself. Anyway, the thing is this:

My thought was - Artists on DeviantArt and various other places (some that can't even draw well to begin with) charge out the ass for drawings. I was thinking, why not do the same with lemons?

I know what you may be thinking - Couldn't someone just write their own, or find someone to do it for free? Well, yes. But if you want to take THAT route, couldn't someone learn to draw or find someone to draw for free? First one possibly, second one not likely.

I doubt I'll ever DO this, but it popped into my head. Opinions, Fakku?

Hey, if someone buys what you're selling, more power to you.

That's basically what pulp writers do.
A tough and warlike field of work, and unlikely to reap huge profits, because so fiercely contested. But a tried and tested one.

Tegumi, don't fuck with this 5 step bullshit. I guarantee that with my "plan" you'll receive unimaginable "profits" by, at least, step 3.

It's entirely possible to get commissioned to write lemons for people, but unless you're really good, or someone is a massive fan of your work it's not really gonna happen.

As for getting commissions here are the steps:

1. Put out the word on a site that people who will want to commission you will see it that you are doing commissions.
2. Set up specifications for costs, what you are willing to write, how often you can update etc.
3. Setup a Paypal account so they can send you the money.
4. Wait for people to commission you.
5. Complete commissions, demand payment etc.
6. ?????
7. Profit!!!

If you want to sell work then go for it.

One of the hardest things to do is to become noticed, or make people recognize your work. Some doujin artists are so good and you just -know- it's theirs by looking at it, and that's what makes people coming back for more.

People want something unique or just flat out good quality work.

That's not to scare you away if you're not at that level, but advertising your work would be very important. You can't have clients if they don't know you exist.
