Hi I don't know much about internet cost so I'm going to ask you guys for help . So, currently I'm using SBC/atta service it download average about 1.5 megabits upload around 0.40 megabytes and they ask me for 50 bucks a month so I'm I getting ripped off ?

I pay 60$ for a 10/2 Mbit connection, and I could probably get it cheaper, so I think you need to specify the country/region you live in, for us to have a chance of giving you a meaningful answer.

It dose depend on your region but holy Im paying about $30 for a 5mb down and a 3mb up if I wanted to pay $50 for internet service I would be getting 10mb down and 5mb up and for $60 like the others I would be getting 15nb down and 6mb up what you are paying for is outragous but regon dose count

I'm paying $70 for only a 1 MB speed, that's a real rip-off, But I can't complain about it though, since my country is still in the "dark ages" of internet and technology.

About $100/month for what's supposed to be 2Mb download speed, but we only get about 0.65Mb/s. Recently though it's been going even slower than usual and Im only getting about speeds that of 28k.
Maximum download speeds on torrents and DDL's is around 30kb/s

Rocking Verizon FIOS here in the DC Metro area. 15Mb/s down and 5Mb/s up for $55/month.
My parents in Raleigh however, only gets a 768kb/s down and 128kb/s down for $25/month.
It really depends on the market, larger cities with more options will have faster speeds with lower prices.

I'm paying $50 a month to Comcast for 10/1 megabits/s but I'm actually getting better speeds around 12/2 when I torrent stuff. Thats 1.5 MB/s down and 250 KB/s up. I can upload a little faster than that but it will start bogging down my network.

However, on a University network, I get really nice speeds upwards of 10 megabits, but of course I don't really know how much of my tuition and room and board is going to that.
Oh yeah, no torrents though. They monitor your P2P usage here, the only two ways to download illegally here is either to use a VPN or go to a Starbucks and get free Internet.

You are getting ripped off, since the speeds you are getting can be bought from dslextreme for like half the price.

You can also use SSL-based newsgroup services such as newshosting. :)
