Introducing anime?

If you want to introduce some of your non otaku friends into anime, which anime series/ova's would you show them first?

My choice would probably Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (just something darker to show without saying not all anime is pokemon and yugioh), spirited away (the artwork), or just something like cowboy bebop.

If it were a girl, I'd show them Vampire Knight

Elfen Lied(naked girls + gore n' blood), death note(suspense ownage), Gantz(blood and wierd aliens naked girls)
etc..

Hellsing OVA.

well I dont know about anime... maybe... something that almost everyone has a good opinion about... maybe some classics such as Dragon Ball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho or, good ol' Akira...

I don't have a good opinion of Dragon Ball Z, and I found Akira boring.
Dragon Ball Z has 50 episodes of one fight. That's ridiculous.

Probably Outlaw Star or Elfen Lied depending on the personality of the person, assuming I know them well enough. For a girl probably Vampire Knight or Ouran High School host club.

Non-otaku friends? I think I'd keep anime to myself. -_-

Technically in the beginning everyone is a non-otaku. It's more what would you show to make them otaku.

I doubt any of the people I know would be interested, except one friend who's a bigger otaku then me.

I showed my friend Katie whose not really familiar with anime Cowboy Bebops OVA and she loved it

In my case, when my non-otaku friend came into my house, I just semi-force them into watching anime, starting with the chaos-comedy anime, like Seto no Hanayome, keroro gunsou, To-Love-Ru. After they've took the bait, the will ask about other anime on their own.
Like, "Is their a robot/action anime ?", after that I'll give them a copy of the anime I suggested, and they will come back for more.

Now there's about 5 people who I've "converted" into a small-scale anime otaku. :twisted:

Depends on who your friends are, if they like to over-analyze things(like literature) and are into the "fine arts", then DeathNote should be a hit. If your friends are into action titles then I suggest DBZ or Bleach, if your friends have rarely ever seen an anime, then I strongly suggest the dubs of these titles, if they're willing to watch subs TTGL is the way to go.

If you can't put your friends taste into a certain Category, I recommend Cowboy Bebop, it has everything for everyone. It's, dare I say, Jazzy. The dub over the sub because Steven Blum's performance in Cowboy Bebop is the best voice acting for anyone, BOTH sides of the Pacific.

i'll introduce him/her to manga first
or if they've read manga already maybe i'll introduce him(if a man) to an ecchi anime. to-LOVE-ru, seto no hanayome, girls bravo, inukami!, etc
and if it's a woman maybe some cute series like Lucky star and Vampire knight

Yea this depends on the type of ppl, I mean I would show some ppl Hellsing OVA, Vampire Hunter D, and others, FMP!, Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop or maybe even Eva for those that think there too smart to watch "cartoons"

and if you go to their home and look up on 'Top Anime' you'll find most amazing animes listed there.
However different people have different tastes, so try to read up on some summaries or member reviews of the animes to help decide which to watch.

I suggest Gurren Lagann btw.
