Every country has its own set of laws, and in the eyes of its citizens, some of them may appear to restrict freedom. I believe we have quite a few members residing in the areas you visited. Perhaps you took the opportunity to meet up?

i've been to singapore before....
no offense to singapore citizens here,but hongkong is much better.
go there and see for yourself.
.....but of course,tokyo,kyoto and nara is THE BEST.PERIOD.

Just be careful not to make your stare noticed, yeah...
Foods are too varies to mentioned, but they got wide array of asian, indian foods... yum curry...
As for places, you have to check Sentosa Island, little India and their Chinatown...
And whether the people are friendly or not, I can't really tell...
Everybody seem too busy and always in a hurry, and I can sense an air of individuality among them...
But if they look like they are free, you can ask a lot and get some good infos, yeah...

I don't think one country can be better than another. It boils down to the opinions of the visitor, A tourist hoping to experience some peace and quiet by the countryside may not be impressed by the most majestic of cities.
