I'm not really sure what to expect from this thread. May not get much action beings that my own personal love of an anime is Tsubasa and I highly doubt it's many others on here since it's by Clamp and is then shoujo.
But I have a deep love for Kajiura. Her music is absolutely beautiful.
She also did the music for .hack and xenosaga episode II (Still haven't beaten that game :x )
Any of you heard her before? Well, I'm sure with .hack, but with Tsubasa's music?
ahh...the pop-classical fusion virtuoso....
yeah,i love her works.
particularly NOIR's soundtracks.
mellow,dark,serene,moving.amazing stuff.
and as for her works on tsubasa chronicle.....
"a song of storm and fire" is particularly amazing.
The list can go forever, but these are the anime series that I've watched myself that include Yuki Kajiura. Her opera/electronica/pop bg music is just amazing.
Tsubasa Chronicle/movie (OST)
Erementar Gerad (OST)
Gundam SEED (songs)
Gundam SEED Destiny (songs)
Aquarian Age (OST)
Mai-Hime (OST)
My-Otome/ Zwei (OST)
El Cazador de la Bruja (OST)
Chrono Crusade (song)
Shounen Omnyouji (song)
Baccano (song)
All of the .hack series (OST)
etc. etc.
Iwasaki Taku has a much more impressive list of accomplishments than Yuki Kajiura. He's also much more well rounded in creating OSTs for different genres of anime, but Yuki Kajiura's style is unforgettable and unique in her own right.
@ g-money: I disagree with your first statement, unless Iwasaki won some awards which I'm not aware of. The number of OSTs composed are more or less the same between the two. For your second statement, I have no comment. My experience with Iwasaki's music is limited to ROD, Witch Hunter Robin, and Soul Taker.
Actually there is truth in your rebuke, but I'm correct when it comes to anime OSTs. As for other works, Yuki Kajiura beats Taku Iwasaki in terms of game OSTs, involvements in other animes, musicals, etc. The fact that his music is more well-rounded is true though when you consider the anime listed below. Here's a list of his OSTs in anime:
The Irresponsible Captain Tylor
Now and Then, Here and There
Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen/SeisÅhen
R.O.D. OVA/TV
Witch Hunter Robin
The SoulTaker
Sadamitsu the Destroyer
Go! Go! Itsutsugo Land
GetBackers
Yokohama Kaidashi KikÅ
Yakitate!! Japan
Black Cat
Angel Heart
BinchÅ-tan
Oban Star Racers
Kekkaishi
009-1
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Persona -trinity soul-
Soul Eater
It would probably be more effective to list the genres those anime encompass instead of the anime themselves. I'll edit this post tomorrow with the anime genres Kajiura has been involved with for comparison's sake (assuming somebody else doesn't do it).
Have to disagree with her being the best, the best is clearly Yoko Kanno or the guys over at Key Sounds Label. But Kajiura does some awesome BGMs, take the .hack//SIGN anime for example. I haven't even seen the anime, but the soundtrack to it is great.
I don't know, I love Yoko's work to death, but some of Yuki's is also just so amazing.
I think one of my favorite pieces by Yuki would be "Song of storm and fire", which was removed in Ziggy's original post - from the Tsubasa Chronicle OST, the song is so absolutely powerful...
I loved this video, though not the absolute best composition of it, it's nice to see everything come together with your own eyes.
Like I said, I don't know, some of Yuki's work is amazing, but then some of Yoko's work is even better, it's hard to pick one over the other even still though, for me. I'd say they're bout on par.
It's also true that both of them reuse material a lot, well it's not exactly an exact copy, but it gets to the point that you can recognize it is them just by hearing the instrumentals, kind of like Ali Project, but less strong... I think that Yuki's work is better overall with the non-vocals, but Yoko's are pretty much there, and her Vocal compositions are way better than Yuki's, my opinions of course..
@Tranquility: I agreed with everything but the last part. I feel that Yuki Kajiura's vocal works are better than Yoko's. Her FictionJUNCTION works are just amazing, barring Yuki's own vocal works.
You know what, you're absolutely right I forgot about her FictionJunction work, it really is good, and I think I mistakenly wrote "way better" when I really meant better...
It's an opinion still but, some of Yoko's vocal work is so good, like under her pseudonym Gabriela Robin.
