Laptop Wont charge

I once again turn to the computer guru's of Fakku to ask this all important question. I need to figure out what is wrong with my laptop, its a Gateway M-series Laptop and it just stopped charging. The charger itself works fine but the computer wont recognize the charger. Before it stopped working it was a bit finicky, I would have to wiggle it around to get it to charge the computer and keep it in a weird position. A few minutes ago i got up to go to teh bathroom and came back to a thud, my cat hit the wire and the laptop fell to the ground the the battery fell out. The battery is working fine, i know this because im using it right now. So glorious computer guru's of fakku, is there anything I can do to fix this or do I have to send it into the manufacturer, b/c I really need this laptop to finish a project thats due monday and this is the only computer I have that has the software I need.

It's not your battery. Definitely the computer. But just in case it's NOT the computer, try to see if you can get ahold of a friends charger or something for a bit just to finish your paper or whatever and see if a different charger will work. Usually a charger with the same size adapter plug-in will work. A laptop can run without the battery if the charger is plugged into the port, so either you have to get a new port [and the tech that goes with it (you will have to special order it)] or get a new computer entirely. If you get the parts for your computer you will have to have it installed by a specialist or someone that REALLY knows their way around a computer [unless you do yourself]. That's all the knowledge and suggestions I can impart for now.

Edit: No. Don't worry about the data. Nothing will happen to you.

I'd save any loli or questionable material to a external storage just in case. Never know who will be looking at it and what they might deem worthy to report to authorites

My cousin had this same problem and it was definitely the laptop's fault. If its still under warranty I would send it in.

If your worried about your data then get an external from best buy or something and back it up before your battery runs out/ship it off to the manufacturer.

i'd say that maybe the AV receptor poped out of its place so either u can open your computer and superglue it or if you're too afraid to do it then send it to a manufacturer OR... try a friends power chord

Go to a computer shop to fix it now

I also got it once, but for me, it's battery is dead and I must charge it to use it.
