So yeah, they're remaking
Last House on the Left.
You may not know what this movie is, but if you enjoy the works of Wes Craven, you know that this was his first film and a classic to his fans.
Synopsis in spoiler if you wanna know.
It's basically about a girl and her friend who are kidnapped and raped by four (I think, I can't remember, been a while since I've seen it)criminals. They're also forced them to perform sexual acts with each other. Then they are murdered. One of the girls' parents live very close to where this all happened and have alerted the police who are looking for her (they don't know she's dead). Ironically the criminals come to this house and ask for a place to stay for the night. I forget exactly how but the parents find out they killed the daughter (I believe the mother finds her body) and the criminals find out they're her parents(I think they see her room and recognze her picture).
Either way, long story short, the parents end up killing the criminals.
There are two things I look for in a remake.
1) It has to do justice to the original. I've seen some remakes of some classic movies that just sucked terribly and brought down the name of the original. This was never some grand masterpiece but it deserves respecting. (I have a bad feeling about this though)
2) It can't be too different from the original. At a certain point a remake isn't a remake anymore as too many things have been changed. It strikes me as someone had an idea that wasn't original enough to be called something different so the decided to call it a "remake."
I'm overall not a fan of remakes because it seems like someone just wants to bank on someone else's idea. :?
Sidenote: Horror movies in general have no affect on me anymore as I've been watching them since a young age and am desensitized to it but I can appreciate a good gory bloodbath or a somewhat realistic psychological horror. This being the latter. Movies that depict things that are plausible in real life are better imo.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is looking forward to this or have even heard of it.
Second sidenote about Craven: I heard that he's planning on a final Nightmare on Elm Street film. I for one would love that. As far as I'm concerned only two of the Nightmare films are to be considered part of the series. Craven himself only wrote/directed the original and New Nightmare (which he had an acting role in) and really the only ones worth watching. Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors was also pretty decent and Craven was actually a producer on it. Goes to show his talents.
But a final one would be terrific. Robert Englund btw is great as Freddy and if there were ever to be a final they'd need him. I don't see that as being a problem as he's always played Freddy but still I need to say it would never be watchable without him. I'd also like to see Heather Langenkamp who was in both of Craven's Nightmare films as she would also be irreplaceable.
