Lookin for a new graphic card

please help me, my graphic card is broken because of overheat and now i lookin' for a new one. my old one is Radeon 4650512 mb DDR2 from gigabyte.

My specs :
processor : AMD PHENOM II X4 black edition(3.0GHZ)
motherboard : S-series gigabyte (forget the product name)
ram : 2x1 GB 1066 kingston
harddisk : 320 gb seagate barracuda

The GTS 250 is a rebranded 9800 GTX+ for your knowledge.

For pure gaming any of those Radeons would be fine but if you watch a lot of movies as well as game I would get an Nvidia GTX 260 or better for its Purevideo and how its CUDA works with CoreAVC.

"Phenom extreme" isn't any type of Phenom I have heard of before. Is it a Phenom or Phenom II? If it is a higher end Phenom II, it wouldn't hurt getting the 4870. However, the 4870 is the most expensive but the most powerful. The GTS 250 and the 4850 are roughly the same in strength, the GTS 250 is just a little bit stronger. The 4770 is the weakest card you have listed, but it is stronger than your old card.

Looking at it, all those cards are going to give you a boost in performance. A performance enthusiast would pick this:

All the cards can play all current games adequately, so your choice will be based whether you want to play the newer games on high settings.

It's completely your choice, I have a 9800GTX+ and it runs games adequately, but struggles running newer games on maximum settings (ex. Empire Total War). But overall, its a very strong budget card.

I would buy the 4870, only because I don't want my computers out dating soon, I like keeping them for a while.

EDIT: Then again, if they are all the same price, GO WITH THE 4870!!!

well, roughly, these 4 have a good mark at 3DMarks and performance, even for ATI 4770, 1 gb DDR5 makes it very good VGA card....

The 4770 isn't that much weaker (to my surprise) than the 4850. The 4850 only gets about 5% more frames than than the 4770. The 4770 isn't a bad choice, and it is the most power efficient option of them all. All the other cards use a significantly more amount of power than the 4770.

I have looked up some benchmarks to help you decide. BTW the 4770 being tested is the 512MB one. Expect the 1GB version to perform slightly better at higher resolutions

The GTS 250 is not in the benchmark, but GTS 250=HD 4850.

meh.. the point is i can't decide what to buy.. the bencmark is slightly different from the one that i hold now, but thanks for the info. here's yo' 1st rep!

btw if until day 12 i don't get any clear opinion from yo all, i'll pick GIGABYTE 4770.

Have you checked out your warranty? Maybe you can still get your card back.

Otherwise the 4770 is perfectly acceptable. Personally myself I would look into the 5-series cards now cause the 4-series is being replaced (5750, 5770), but its a perfectly fine card, expect a very good performance boost in games over your old 4650.

no, it's already out from warranty. well, i've think to buy 5850 as well, but it hasn't launched yet here (i'm Indonesian) and buy it online is risky, so, maybe, 4770 is a good choice. it has affordable price too *lol*
