I was recently watching Evil Dead 3 Army of Darkness (great movie), and saw the scene of Ash making a mechanical hand to replace the hand that he lost in the second movie and he got a perfectly functional mechanical hand using pistons and coils.
And to add a second example that is famous in the anime and manga world is the cannon arm from Gatts/Guts from Berserk.
It is possible to replicate some hand functions using only simple mechanical means as show in the movie? And Gatts arm has any mechanical backing on its design?
I don't meant the cannon itself, but the coil around the elbow area and the working of the fingers. If anyone with engineering or mechanical experience or degrees could please answer those questions I would really appreciate.

Look at what we do with prosthetic limbs nowadays. Most people, if they are willing to shell out a bit of cash, actually see an IMPROVEMENT in their performance post-prosthetic.
And, as the technology becomes more refined, grafting a mechanical arm onto a severed nerve and linking it to the brain isn't Sci-Fi, it's ten years from now.

Maybe not today, or tomorrow, or the next day, but some day..
Besides we would have to understand more into the human brain first to accept the complicated machinery and link it to the brain. Imagine doin that. I reckon grafting a new hand through cloning would be easier.

advancements in science and medicine are bringing us closer. Mankind's already found a way to PRINT HUMAN TISSUE. I've read articles and watched interviews on the subject. Now, by the time we're able to actually print out human hearts, we'll definitely have advanced robotic appendages.
