Wow. I've been looking through all of your stuff but I have to say that Teg's avatar is by far my favorite.
Would you mind doing an avatar for me? If so, that would be dandy.
How did this start? Your drawing abilities, that is. Were there classes? Something pushed on your by a parent? Trial and error in your free time? Doodling in class? You buy books on it?
And for the "guideline" drawings, did you buy a book on human anatomy or human structure and joins for drawing or is that all just assumptions from different work you've seen and/or personal experience?
Wow, thank you! Oh my, I'm afraid that you're gonna have to wait if you want to get an avi from me, I'm a bit busy with everything right now. But if you don't mind the wait, just send me PM about it and I'll get to it sooner or later.
First, I've always liked to draw, but I never intended for it to become such a passion of mine. When I was around 12 years old, my family moved and my chances of getting into the school all my friends were going went down. In order to secure a place for me there, I had to apply for one of the special (math/music/art) classes. I decided to go with art even though I was skilled in math. The reason was simply because I found art lessons soothing and enjoyable.
Later in life two things happened that had huge emphasis on my interest towards drawing and art. One: I recieved a manga volume as a present and found myself sinking into every picture, the amount of detail was breathtaking for someone who's only experience of comics so far was Donald Duck.
And two: Browsing internet I discovered a talented, popular amateur artist who quickly received a place as one of my idols. I set a goal; before my nineteenth birthday I'd acchieve the level of skill in drawing she had.
I don't think the art classes in school did that much for me - but I bought books, yes. I've got around seven books on manga drawing (most made by western artists, yet I've found them very helpful). The "guideline" drawings are a collection of what I've learned from them mainly and what works for me.
Fat pile of text is fat.
Oh and p.s. I also scan every art piece I see very carefully, no matter what the style.
