Depends on the food. In mall food courts (such as SM's or Robinson's) I usually get picky with the "two-viands" and "three-viands" combo. When they mix, I usually make sure they're going to be cohesive enough with their tastes as to not confuse my tastebuds.
Actually I often tend to mix foods on my plate. I don't have any combos in particular I prefer to mix, I only have restrictions I keep in mind.
- If the viand is soup-based, I don't mix it with thick-sauced viands and barbecues.
- If the viand is primarily composed of vegetables, I don't mix it with other food, since it will kill the taste of the veggies.
- If the viand has strong vinegar content or sourness (such as a "kilawin"), I never mix it with other food, the sourness will overpower the taste of the other food mixed with it.
- Follow strong, unshakeable gut feelings. If I feel that mixing Indian curry sauce with goat mechado isn't such a good idea, I don't try it.
I got this related story: One time at a professor's birthday bash some of my classmates spotted me with my full plate - it has chicken, beef, pork, fish and shrimp from different viands, with rice. They incredulously asked me if I can finish my plate. I then sat on their eating table and finished my plate right in front of them ^_^
