My First Tattoo~

Okay, I promised the guys on the IRC and some people I'd post pics of my tattoo when I get it finished. My browsers haven't been working real well so I haven't been on much, if at all lately.



Here's the finished piece:


It's a lotus flower and the letters below is a Tibetan mantra.
Apparently the spelling is different, as a few people claimed on the IRC
But I've always seen it as "Om mani padme hum" It's a mantra that you repeat sorta like those monks that go 'ooooohhhm' - it's a lesson.

Basically the lotus flower grows on top of murky water, at night it closes and sinks and by dawn it rises again as pure as it was the day before. The teaching within the mantra is to basically strive to be the lotus flower. No matter how murky/hard life gets to never allow it to taint you and change you for who you are, and to rise above your challenges.

I thought if I'd have a permanent mark on my body I'd choose something I can always learn from and something that means a lot to me personally.

cool, btw what kind of pain were u feeling?

It wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. People have all sorts of horror stories to tell you. It was painful, but not in the "I just want this to end!" type of pain, more of a I was making funny faces in discomfort pain.

My friend there said I looked like I was trying to take a shit a few times. :lol:

But I believe the healing process is worse then the tattoo. At least in the area of mine. My job requires me to be hunched over with my arms in front of me reaching for things, that huuuurts my tattoo right now.

It's scabbing over (The last picture is actually a picture taken a few hours ago) and healing so eh. A few more days, then it'll itch and drive me insane.

How long was the process?

A lot of people see tattoos are pointless. Everyone has something that someone else would consider silly or stupid. It all boils down to each their own I guess.

I like it. It's not an overly common tatoo. Like tribal armbands. Currently I'm saving up for my tatoo.

Nice tattoo. Looks like it took a while. I still haven't got one for myself. Maybe some day I will... still not really sure if I should get one. Even if I do decide to get one.. first I'll have to decide what I want and what's worth getting.

It's a symbol I've designed myself. Kind of a cross between Egyptian Hiroglyphs, Germanic Runes, and Arabic writing. It's a symbol for ultimate knoledge. It has no meaning to anyone other than myself. I'm gonna get it just below the line of my shirt collar, on the back of my neck.

I once got a tattoo, but i got kinda sick of it then got it removed after a few months.

i love looking at tattoo(and i love watching miami ink),but i won't get one for myself for personal reasons.

That's a sweet ass tattoo. And I hate people who think all tattoo need a reason. I have 3 one on my foot, wrist and back. 2 are really pointless one is actually meaningful. I think your is sweet!

Personally, I will never get one myself. I don't like adding stuff to my body. Also, I'll probably regret it when I'm older.

That is why you sit on the idea for a while. If you are still as excited about getting a tat after the wait then you will usually stick with it.

The most common problem with tats are that people get them on an impulse (or when they are drunk) and end up regretting it.

The second most common problem is no originality when people get'em.

"uh, I'll get a dragon, no wait, a chinese dragon. I'll also get a tribal armband or barbed wire."
