Okay, I promised the guys on the IRC and some people I'd post pics of my tattoo when I get it finished. My browsers haven't been working real well so I haven't been on much, if at all lately.
Here's the finished piece:
It's a lotus flower and the letters below is a Tibetan mantra.
Apparently the spelling is different, as a few people claimed on the IRC
But I've always seen it as "Om mani padme hum" It's a mantra that you repeat sorta like those monks that go 'ooooohhhm' - it's a lesson.
Basically the lotus flower grows on top of murky water, at night it closes and sinks and by dawn it rises again as pure as it was the day before. The teaching within the mantra is to basically strive to be the lotus flower. No matter how murky/hard life gets to never allow it to taint you and change you for who you are, and to rise above your challenges.
I thought if I'd have a permanent mark on my body I'd choose something I can always learn from and something that means a lot to me personally.
