I'll begin with the usual stuff and just to clear things up: I'm not an anime hater, I'm getting kinda tired about it though.
As most of us should know, (and if you don’t then you should at least get an idea if you read this whole thing) anime is characterized by the way characters are drawn (usually aesthetic designed characters for some reason). Some of the most notorious things would be:
- The uhh? great variety of hair colors which is, in most cases, to highlight the character's personality.
- Most of the characters have long, almost plastic and gravity-defying hair.
- Anime is Japanese for animation or short for the same word.
Now, I have enjoyed watching cartoons ever since I remember, I really liked the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Tom & Jerry, Warner stuff, Nickelodeon cartoons like the Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold etc. and then I stumbled upon this really good program called ( I think it was aired in my country before the U.S. even bothered to consider the possibility of airing the whole thing)Dragon Ball, I liked it since the first episode and Goku quickly became one of my personal favorite cartoon characters.
Years passed and I kept spending lots of time watching T.V. , I didn't knew at that time, but I had already watched a lot of anime before being 10( Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, Zenki, B’t X, Saint Seiya, Slam Dunk, Slayers, Dragon Quest and probably some more I can't remember right now).
I became aware of what anime was when I was 13 or something( I didn't really watched T.V. a lot at this point, I'd say less than 10 hours a week, but I started to go out about twice a week with my friends from back then or my family and watch a movie or two)...anyway, I watched Cowboy Bebop and it blew my mind, then this channel "Locomotion" came out of nowhere and became my source for anime whenever I felt like it, it was around that time that I began to notice that...anime has the tendency to manufacture the same goddamned character over and over again, I call these the anime stereotypes (take the shy, rarely ever down to earth girl with a high pitched voice for an example), this inclination towards not being original is what really bothers me, I mean, anyone( and I really mean it) should be capable of coming up with innovative and interesting characters ( Example: L from Death Note).
Not only does this affect plots, but also the people who watch it, and that is really really really distressing, I won’t really bother to elucidate this since this is a rant about anime and not who watches it. The material I’m currently following up would be Bleach and Naruto, after these two end I think I’ll limit myself to reading some pr0n from time to time (you know’ this site’s manga).
I’ll end this post right here without closing the topic so much in order to get some cute responses(hopefully! But seriously, do share your insight regarding this).
