I think the ones your on about are onigiri ^^
easy to make and nice with fillings!
SO!! you need...
*cooked rice (use short-grain rice and make sure its sticky!(sometimes i mix in a little rice vinigar for taste when its cooked)
*filling - salty, pickled plum, grilled salmon, tuna fish mixed with mayonnaise sauce- Whatever you like you can choose as filling.
*Nori (dry seaweed sheet)
*Salt
1. Cook rice according to the instructions, maybe with a little more H20 that usual for stickyness..
2. Put some warm water + (optional-rice vinigar) in a bowl and wet hands, then sprinkle a little salt onto palms to prevent being glued to onigiri
3. Ok so place about a handful of rice into your palm whilst warm...
4. add your filling in the centre of rice and form rice in a triangular shape by tossing the rice in the hands(have fun!!). Make sure the filling comes inside of the rice ball.
5. Cut dry seaweed sheet into a strip, thickness dependant on how big the ongigiri is. Wrap around the bottom of the rice ball.
Finitoo!
they're great if you make LOADS and just have a pig out/lazy/gaming/movie day and fast to make once you get the hang of it!
& fillings are totally your choice as long as they can be covered by the rice, some alternatives are...
*cooked meat/mince
*boiled carrot chunks(not too soft!!!) in sugar (trust me)
*slices of picked ginger
*cooked shell fish
*my personal favourate - chinese pickled cabbage (found in most chinese stores in a tin!)
Some times i also toast some seasame seeds and roll it with the rice for something different! Have fun!
