tkhnoman: But it sounds like each artist will get a cut of the profits and I'm guessing the cover artist will get a larger portion. Og course I could be wrong about this...

I'll try and see what I can do, but I'm kind of overloaded with stuff to do already. Making a short film for class...
Ok, I uploaded some pics on to my blog for Tkhnoman. I think this gus style will mesh well with your layour sensibilities.

The cover contest fee was just an idea to help offset the cost of the printing. Until I get the go ahead from Jake, Raze and Nikon, I'm just making suggestions. Thanks for chiming in though. Since its our first run at this your ideas are very helpful.
Another proposition was to limit the manga to 10 pages...is that just right or is it too short.
Also since I'm getting feedback from printers it looks like the dates will shift giving you more time for you to work. But that doesnt mean that you should procrastinate. I'd hate to drop someone just because they "started late"
it will be A4-like sized manga?
Actually that's too big, and if someone using basic tone it will not looks so good.
Hmm... But they might do portrait, so it will be A5-sized per page.
If they do that, 10 can mean 20, and that enough.
@f0dd3r:
thanks for the photo f0dd3r. I might do some illustration after all, so those will be good as reference.
Also, did you talk to the administrators, or not yet?
I'd like to know what you think we should call this artbook, cause to me FAKKU Artwork Compilation 2009 sounds kinda lame.
So I'm opening the flood gates.
I've also thought that the artbook should be open to 3d artists. Also the image size specs apply only to images that print full page. Don't let it stop you from making awesome imagery. IF it gets selected we will size it as much as printing size allows.
"Start by doing what's necessary, then what's possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible." -Francis of Assisi.
At everyone and tonee:these are suggested dates. right now i know for a fact they will move back closer to the summer, i just havent figured out where. I set these when the printers were giving me three month lead times for the book. It'll be finalized soon and the firm dates will be published with the offical faq.
EDIT:
"Dont limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your ind lets you. What you believe, you can achieve." - Mary Kay Ash, American Businesswoman.
Alright. I finished the Offical FAQ. There are some significant changes. And it will be posted Tomorrow. Also I've begun mapping out the critique and submission process.
I'd like to get a sense of how many of you have begun to sketch out your manga and/or illustrations.
"Time spent vs. Time wasted - To spend time is to pass it in a specified manner. To waste time is to expend it thoughtlessly or carelessly. We all have time to either spend or waste, and it is our decision what to do with it. But once passed, it is gone forever." Bruce Lee.
I'm very sorry f0dd3r i have 2 books in my hands so i can't help with this project this time round. Have fun though and i'll look forward to seeing the book.
Initially saw the deadline was what Dec2009? How did it get to April...
I don't mind helping out in the judging process though, just drop me a message if you need anything...
That is very unfortunate that you're not able to take part on the project, I wish you good luck for the two books you are working on. I haven't made a rough sketch of what I'm planning yet, just some random doodles with the style I'm trying out, school is taking a whole lot of my time and I don't currently have my tablet with me so I can't post anything up. By this weekend I should have a rough sketch going on.
@Mycstea: The Publication deadline is DEC 2009 but there are things that need to get handled in the mean time like lay out and ebnought time for people to do revisions that why there is such a time gap. also look below on the First OFFICAL FAQ to see the new dates.
@Palmas:Good. Believe me its so important to space out the project so you can have time to really look things over and revise them.
AND NOW HERE IS THE FIRST OFFICAL FAQ:
Fakku Compilation Artbook Frequently Asked Questions: Version 1
Fakku FAQ Last Modified: 22 March 2009
1. How do I participate in the Compilation Artbook?
Submit your entries by the 6th of July, 2009 with the PDF Entry form. Observing the rules and deadlines will help keep you in the Artbook. There will be a preliminary dateline of May 11th, 2009, for those who want critiques to help improve their chances to get in.
2. What can I submit?
We are accepting ORIGINAL material. You can submit short manga or illustrations. The work can be black/white or full color. We are planning on printing this artbook so your final submission must be print quality.(minimum 300 DPI @ 2100 pixels by 2100 pixels for full page spreads).
3. What can’t I submit?
Pornography. Huh, but Fakku is an H-Site? We know. We don’t mind adult stories, language, violence and nudity, just refrain from being explicit.
4. I want to submit more than one?
You are allowed to submit more than one manga or illustration for consideration. But due to the high quality of work we will demand, we would recommend that you focus on doing only one manga. You can do as many illustrations as you want.
5. Does everyone who submits art to the book get in?
No. The submissions will be judged by the editorial panel. It’s really as simple as that.
6. Those are huge files I don’t know if my computer can handle them?
We will be initially accepting submissions at web quality (72 dpi) so your initial file sizes don’t have to be bigger than about 3 MB each.
7. If I submit something is it really going to get in?
All submissions will be reviewed for inclusion. We will do our best to comment and critique your work to help you meet our publication guidelines.
8. What are the deadlines?
- May 11, 2009: Critique Deadline
- July 6, 2009: Preliminary Deadline
- August 3, 2009: Production/Final Selection Deadline
9. How will the artist be compensated?
We plan on compensating the artists if/when we make enough to cover printing costs. Details will be given if/when that happens. There may be other perks for artists as situations arise.
10. I got cut! Do I get another chance?
The short answer is no. The long answer is there will be a cover contest. The competition will be fierce, you can expect people to work especially hard at making the cover of our first annual art compilation. There will be a site wide vote for our cover.
11. I didn’t get notified if I’m in or not?
Of those who submit for the July 6th Deadline, we will only notify those who made the cut. There will be a general post that all submissions have been notified. If you didn’t receive one, there is still the cover contest.
12. Will you critique my entries?
Those submitted by May 11th will be critiqued to give you some direction. Of the entry submissions only those who are notified as accepted will get comments .
13. I did a kick ass drawing of Orihime from Bleach, can I enter it?
No. First of all we are looking for original material. Second, we cannot publish any work that potentially infringes on the copyrights of another person or company: you have to get the permission of the rights holder first. The original copyright holder must contact us to express permission.
14. Will the artbook be offered as a virtual/e-book?
Our priority is to make a book people can love.
15. Do we scan the artwork or mail it?
Please scan the artwork and submit it along the guidelines for submission below.
16. Can we submit a black and white Illustration?
Yes.
17. Does the illustration have to be gender specific, can it be any, as long as it’s an OC?
Bingo.
18. The pixel size, is it 3200w x 4700h or the other way around?
The official size is now 2100h x 2100w.
19. Is ecchi/perverted illustration/manga allowed?
We like to think of it in terms of an R movie rating. Just be careful not to cross over into X.
20. How many page limit for manga and illustration per artist?
10 pages maximum give or take.
21. Is 4 koma style manga acceptable?
Yes. Let’s see what you can do with it.
22. What happens to my copyright?
You retain your copyright. It’s your story and your characters. You simply allow exclusive reproduction and worldwide distribution for one year from the “street date”, and non exclusive reproduction and worldwide distribution after that.
23. What is a “street date”?
It’s the official day the books get retail distribution.
Let your friends know. Its more fun with people you know.
Ooh, awesome faq, I just got my tablet back so I will start some rough sketches. What I was wondering was if there would be a special section for the drawings that didn't make all minimized into a page or 2, like in the calendar.
10 pages (max) huh... kinda short, but I guess that's the challenge to it.
oh, what if there's a similar storyline in some of the submitted works? I know you guys will only pick the best, but can the others have a chance in case they don't get picked like submitting another work with a different story??
