New To PC Gaming, So I'm Lookin For Advice

i went to a friends house over the weekend, and played Assassin's Creed for the first time. i was in awe at the games caliber to say the least, and i thought "I so got to get this game" i went on wikipedia, and saw it was for PC, so i thought i should just get it for PC.

what i want to know, is will it be compatible with vista? another thing i should add is that i have a laptop, not a desktop, and want to know if that makes any difference.

i also wanted to get a controller to play it on, because i dont really like the keyboard scheme (no offense, but i just dont mix with the keyboard controls, nor do i know how to work them properly). now what kind of controllers are there for computers?

Note: i heard that 360 controllers can work with XP computers, but will it work with vista?

Yeah, it'll work with Vista.
Regarding the laptop issue, yeah, it can make a difference, as laptops are often retrofitted with "mobile" (i.e. lower performance, but lower power consumption and heat emanation) GPUs and CPUs, making for less powerful systems. There's however no telling whether it will run on your system, as you haven't given any actual specs ^^;

Yes it will work GREAT IF:

- Your processor has Intel Core2Duo T/P Series ABOVE 2.0 GHz
- Yor RAM is 2GB or above
- Using a graphics adapter like ATI Radeon Mobility or Geforce Mobile NOT Intel GMA 950 or 4500

i tried what ulcer recommended, and the site said my comptuer would not be compatible. the reason was that i was missing a video card or something, and my disk reader needs to be DVD-ROM dual-layer drive. how can i fix these? (the disk drive problem can be fixed i think. lately it has not been reading anything at all.)

and how do i install a video card? how much would it cost? still need some more details

Generally speaking, you cannot install vid-cards in a laptop yourself. You have to make do with the graphics adapter supplied with the machine. If your laptop's graphics adapter does not suffice, you're out of luck.

fuck...well later today i was going to take it to best buy to get it fixed, could i ask them to do it? or do i just need a different computer altogether if i wanted to play games?

Laptops in general do not offer any easy options for upgrade. Most often, the "innards" of a laptop are designed to fit the product and cannot be exchanged for upgraded parts.

If you wnt to play assasins creed well on a computer I recomend geting a labtop with a graphics card with a gig of vidio memory because I got desctop computer with 4 gig phisical mem and 512 (5** I dont know) graphics card and still lags on medioucure graphic Qualaty and my controler (Logitech Cordless RumblePad 2)works fine On my vista 64 bit OS.

I have a very shitty computer but a badass graphics card and it plays everything max quality. As long as you have something like a dual-core with 2ghz+ and 2 gigs of ram and a (currently) $150 graphics card you can play everything just fine.

I just got this badboy Monday and I'm enjoying it. It had a $30 mail-in-rebate but they dropped it to $15 for some reason, luckily I had already printed out the $30 one =D. It was interesting fitting it in my case because its fuckin' 11 inches long. I had to switch one of my round IDE cables to a flat one and reorganize some wires and with switching the cable I had to move my hard drives around but it finally fit. There's about 1/16th an inch gap between it and my hard drivs.
