According to this video, Obama is passing a new law to allow the Government to search your PC's, Laptops, and media devices for no reasons whatsoever.

Ah, they even said it. I was thinking 'Big Brother' the whole time. I'm not sure what to think, it's hardly expected since a lot of time and energy would have to be put into this, and I really think there are much more things to worry about then some teenagers sharing music between each other.

Thing is -- more than a few governments world-wide seem to be getting this idea (again) lately. Mine included.
Have very little that would be of any law violation myself but it still pisses me off.

I find the idea almost impossible. What's the calculation for the number of computer users in the world?

There's no way 'Big Brother' can keep track of everyone in the world. I could understand, maybe, with future model computers, with trackers in them - but what about all those custom made computers?

The only other way I would see it happening (and I'm not that much of a saavy computer user) is if they keep track of websites where you can download copyrighted material and track you via IP address, but they can already do that.

I think it's something like 1,000,000,000 computer internet users, let alone other devices with internet capabilities.

It's not about sharing music it's about looking through files on peoples computers for more important stuff. The music things just an excuse.

I don't really know if it's good or bad yet. Well at least it wont start till around the end of next year.

Yea but there's no point in getting upset over this until there's more news about it. Media loves topics like this to get people all upset and defensive against the government. If this were really the case it'd be all -over- the news.

This is muckraking by the Czech media. The news reporter herself even says that the contents of the legislation are unknown and that the grim situation they present is hypothetical.

As to those who are saying "hahaha, sucks to be in the US," this is an international copyright law deal, including the EU and a number of other countries.

Still, I wouldn't be too concerned just yet for a number of reasons, foremost among them the fact that the people reporting on this story don't actually know what the legislation will entail yet.

I'm too lazy to write an extremely detailed analysis of why I wouldn't be super worried just yet, but it suffices to say this is yellow journalism at its finest.

EDIT: It's also amusing that the reporter makes it out to be the fault of the US and specifically Obama when the entire EU is also involved in this.
