Ugh. I loathe Barbie Dolls. I've had to do way too much research about them in sociology class.
Recently Mattel sued MGA (the people who made Bratz dolls) because they claimed Bratz were their idea. The guy who created Bratz Dolls worked for Mattel and actually brought the idea up with them, and they declined it. So after his contract was up he went and made the Bratz dolls himself.
After having a multimillion dollar success on the Franchise, Mattel took a step back and went 'waaaait a minute' and claimed that the profit was theirs. Because the guys contract technically states that any ideas he comes up with while working with Mattel belongs to them. Despite not caring about the idea, they cared now.
Yes they won, yes they got money with it for 'damages' that MGA caused Mattel's profit. Mattel made My Scene Barbies and Flava's until they could come up with a way to steal Bratz away from MGA. Mattel actually got snagged on the Flava's. People thought they were making fun of the urban trend. Rap stars, etc were like wtf.
Anyway, Mattel threw a hissy fit, and had the American Psychological Association Task Force tell everybody how Bratz were so awful. How they degraded women, and how they just were unsuited to be sold to little girls. It sent across the wrong message.
However, now that it's all done and over with. Mattel gets the choice to start selling Bratz dolls themselves or just keep them gone and were stuck on making a decision. 'damaging' little girls purity or making millions of dollars... hmmmmm..... :roll:
Anyway. This whole tl'dr is the fact that despite Mattel doesn't have Barbie on a stripper pole, they've gotten in trouble a lot of times for 'degrading' women. Femanazi's turn red when Barbie is mentioned.
It's because the first Barbie or so had a draw string, and one of the things she said "Math is Hard~"
All girls must be blonde, skinny, and have a neck of a giraffe, wear high heels with everything etc.
Mattel degrades females in a different sense then sexuality.
I don't really care about them on that fact. I mean, yea I kinda played with them as a kid, but I didn't get to a whole lot because I grew up with my moms friend's son and I ended up growing up on Power Rangers and N64
But what really blows my mind is Mattel claims so much but really they're just out there for a buck. They don't give 2 shits about the example they're giving to little girls.
Little girls are too young to understand sexuality. But I guess the argument is the subconscious teaches young girls to look like a certain image.
